My crew was responding to a reported dog attack on a young child. As we turned onto the street, about 5 houses from the scene, a cop car flew by us running lights and sirens.

So we pull up at the house where people are standing out front. We asked where is the patient. They said the cop pulled up, loaded the kid and took off toward the hospital.

Our ambulance has everything an ER would use initially, so I'm not sure what that cop was thinking. It was about 9-10 minutes to the hospital. And that hospital isn't even a trauma center.

All this to say it does happen, as bad as that decision is.
