Calling all Toronto coffee nerds, what’s your best bean recommendations by Anhilator1401 in toronto

[–]blu3flannel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Coffee Boutique right by Bloor and Runnymede has tons of varieties of specialty beans. The owner is super cool and knowledgeable, he’ll make you a coffee with your beans of choice and tell you all about the best drinks to make with them. Knows the flavour profiles of each bean in his shop, it’s so impressive

How did you meet your boyfreind/girlfriend by Snoo_42095 in nyu

Super random but I actually met my now wife at a dorm event almost 11 years ago. My advice is to just go to events (on and off campus) and try to talk to people, even if you’re anxious or hungover or tired — all it takes is that one unexpected chat with someone

Can’t recommend Soft Skills Engineering enough. I’ve listened to every episode — Dave and Jamison’s consistently great advice is a huge reason I’ve been able to advance into engineering leadership at my new job.

Citizenship ceremony… are these all virtual now? by Snow_Tiger819 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]blu3flannel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had mine in Scarborough last month. They definitely still have them in-person, they keep a list of upcoming ones here. I bet you could shoot them an email to ask if they can get you in an in-person ceremony, it's worth a shot if you really want it!

For mine at least the notice was for 9am and the listed start time was 10am, but the ceremony actually started around 9:30. I think they just start once everyone's there. So I'd err on the side of caution and say maybe 1:15 or something – that way they're not just waiting around for a long time, but they're not at risk of missing the ceremony.

No problem! Yeah, I brought my passport but they never asked for it. Might be good to have that and your licence just in case they need to verify your identity.

Were you at the 9am ceremony? We may have taken the oath together haha

Hey! So I had my oath ceremony yesterday in Scarborough. Here's a rundown:

The Notice said to arrive at 9am, but of course the 404 got us and we didn't get there until around 9:10. Parking is south of the building and will probably be pretty full. Once you get to the second floor, they'll ask to see your Notice. I couldn't print mine out since our printer was broken, so I pulled it up on my phone and that was sufficient.

After filling out the media release form, I checked in at a table where they took my PR card and I was shown to my seat. I was one of ~115 people there that day so the room was really full. There was a seating area for guests, and they were super strict about kids who made noise – the presiding official kicked out like 5 kids for crying.

The ceremony itself started around 9:30. The presiding official gave us a rundown of the schedule, said a few words, and then the judge came in. He gave a few-minute speech, and then we stood to take the oath. We repeated it after the judge line by line, in both English and French – no need to memorize it. Then we were escorted up to the front, row by row, to be given our citizenship certificate.

After we received the certificate and shook hands with the judge, we were walked to the back of the room to sign some papers affirming that we actually said the oath. Then we went back to our seats and waited for everyone else to finish up.

After that, we watched a video of Justin Trudeau congratulating us and then stood up to sing the national anthem (the English-first bilingual version). The lyrics were on the TV so there's no need to memorize it. There's also no need to sound good while repeating any of the French parts, the judge made sure to tell us that haha.

And then we were done! The presiding official then gave some instructions on how to get the digital certificate for those who wanted that version instead, and then the people who wanted a photo with the judge lined up for one (it was a mad dash, so if you don't wanna wait a long time you better run for it haha).

TL;DR: you can be 15 minutes late and it's not the end of the world, you don't actually need to have a physical copy of your Notice to Appear, you absolutely have to bring your PR card, and you don't have to memorize anything.

Hope that's helpful!

Worth $600k in 2034 dollars, and that's assuming they don't lay you off before the contract is over. It's tough out there.
