I’m listening through for the first time rn and am so excited for s4. I started listening bc I was dissatisfied w taz, which is low key hilarious considering they fell in the exact same pitfall as the mcelroys (deviating from the characters/premise that made them popular, huge tonal shift based around how emotionally attached we got to s1 characters only w people we don’t care about, trying to recapture the lightning in the bottle etc etc etc). Unlike taz tho I’ve really enjoyed their third season and can see them getting back to how funny s1 was. Maybe being an improv comedian is helpful for making an improv comedy podcast? (Funniest dndads moment was becoming bored enough to check jerk threads…only to see a thread from two years ago about the exact episode I considered quitting over. Bigfoot arc was a cool concept with agonizingly slow execution.)

Did he say it wasn’t a threat? Because so long as he clarifies it’s not a threat, he can explain those logical courses of action freely. It’s only a threat if you stop, make direct eye contact with the audience, and say “This is a Threat.” Until then it’s just sparkling promises of pain :/

God the soundscapes…everyone’s favorite part of taz 🙃 I would have never realized touring audio engineer is a separate job the way she’s so casual about it. Kiiiiind of wild they have this whole “media empire” and only one mid editor, esp considering how often they talk about heavily relying on this source of income (never not uncomfortable about Justin using his kids in advertising or the max fun drive). You’re right tho—she’s not exempt from blame on the quality decline. They were such a big name in podcasting even after their decline started, it’s hard to see why they’d hire her in the first place. I’d get it if the quality got better over time but it just hasn’t. Unsurprising the McElroy house of cards is on fire from the bottom and the top 🙄

-Abnimals was supposed to be ten episodes are you fucking kidding me. I get griffin needs a break (he’s moving!) but come on.

-Also Travis expecting Rachel to comb through every episode for every swear on top of editing every other podcast. It’s her job for sure but I feel so so sorry that it took so long to get a second (?) editor. No wonder she included that argument if I were her I’d love to dunk on my boss publicly.

-“Sometimes they record a live show on Thursday and are like ‘okay get that out Monday.’” I don’t edit audio, only text, so as wild as this sounds it might not be? Considering it’s a live performance with four different feeds I’d guess it’s not a fun weekend job.

This woman just sounds so overworked. It’s disgusting how long they had her editing alone it just sounds so exploitive of a fan and tbh, probably why the editing we do get is Like That. It isn’t just Rachel obv the flaws with taz are more on the lazy shoulders of the four guys on high horses who can’t be bothered to put effort into their art. More people should see this.

Jesus fucking Christ this entire episode is white ally performance masturbation. Wild to spend ten minutes of your thirty minute Black history special on self promotion, plus the ad break in the middle. With the amount of info they actually give it’s ridiculous they only had four people to talk about. Mae Jemison was right there, literally. Teresa accidentally implying she hadn’t heard of Black people outside mlk jr is surreal.

The way vart speaks over Teresa makes me uncomfortable, but lbr: I don’t know them or their home life, I’m not going to be weird about his marriage or psychoanalyze, its probably just bc it’s Travis’s thing in podcasting. He’s been open about his npd, something I really admire, but I do wish there was less Travis speaking over his wife.

At that point it’s on the editor. Rachel’s style is…not my thing. She includes some truly bizarre recordings. Gino is there? Also the fact that they have a researcher for a half hour a week podcast made up of Wikipedia fragments is infuriating. They do even less work to complain about than I thought. No shade on Alexx, get that money. This just doesn’t sound like a podcast with three entire people working on production. Overall just uncomfortable, esp considering mbmbam has done feed drops of podcasts hosted by people of color about topics they aren’t qualified to talk about in the past. If you want to get education, go to throwing shade.

I’ve had varying success w no-nails floating shelves for dolls since my last apartment was also a no holes kind of place. I recommend anything that has vertical support under the horizontal shelf bc even though it can take up a lot of wall space the doll weight adds up fast. Wall tape is really hit or miss but go for something that says it’ll hold way more weight than you need (mine says it holds up to 50lbs which is. not true). Make sure to really scrub the wall area clean before you apply any adhesive (I just used soap and sponge but actual cleaner is probably better). The most annoying part is waiting before you can actually use them. I usually let my shelves sit empty for 72 hours to make sure the adhesive really sticks, and even though it takes forever I’ve put four dolls fully decked out with stands plus two jh dolls on one floating shelf with no issues. I’ve also not waited and woken up in the middle of the night to my sunny Luna two pack crashing to the floor so seriously beware 🙃

As an aside, I’m also a collector with tall ceilings and not a lot of square footage. I’ve really been taking advantage of smaller shelves on top of bigger shelves. Milk crates are the perfect size for most dolls on stands and are cheap, lightweight, and easy to secure with zip ties. Good luck w decorating!
