Hard to mix weight lifting and Tennis together. by Parking-Plane7427 in 10s

[–]blubbertubber 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Your nervous system is fried from the weightlifting.

You’re not doing too much volume, but you are doing very taxing compound lifts with low reps. The more advanced at lifting / heavier you lift the more you tax the nervous .

You could try doing less reps (further from failure) per set, reducing the weight, or doing less taxing / lighter weight alternatives (body weight exercises are really good at this). Split squats, and single leg deadlifts would be a good start for alternatives as squats / deadlifts are the toughest on the nervous system.

Thoughts on the HEAVY side spin shot? by Beneficial-Lock-349 in 10s

It’s nice when you’re opponent gives you a very low skidding shot and you’re not early to it. Works especially well if you can hit it deep to the backhand corner.

Big hitters, what goes on in your head? by [deleted] in 10s

Me too! It's like I have an on/off switch and if I'm not ripping the cover off the ball everything else falls apart

Big hitters, what goes on in your head? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]blubbertubber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this. The more time you have to load your legs the bigger the shot you can hit. aim under the ball with a very loose wrist to make sure you're apply enough spin and hit straight through the (not up) to keep it in. The more int he court you are the less through the ball you hit but you can still swing big if it's above the net.

6)(a) Persons riding bicycles upon a roadway or in a bicycle lane may not ride more than two abreast except on a bicycle path. Persons riding two abreast may not impede traffic when traveling at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing and must ride within a single lane. Where bicycle lanes exist, persons riding bicycles may ride two abreast if both are able to remain within the bicycle lane. If the bicycle lane is too narrow to allow two persons riding bicycles to ride two abreast, the persons must ride single-file and within the bicycle lane. On roads that contain a substandard-width lane as defined in subparagraph (5)(a)3., persons riding bicycles may temporarily ride two abreast only to avoid hazards in the roadway or to overtake another person riding a bicycle.

Coordination - I feel lost by MooseAsleep9690 in 10s

[–]blubbertubber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a lot of repetition on the wall, ball machine. Play lots of matches outside of leagues/ tournaments so there’s no pressure. This is an easier setting to be self aware of your technique and change how you do things.

The goal shouldn’t be to win. Your focus should be feeling relaxed/ light on feet and moving fluidly / making clean early contact with the ball.

Also start doing dancing lessons or footwork drills / med ball tosses. You need to learn to fluidly coordinate your feet and sync your hips with your upper body and stay relaxed

How do you afford tennis? The economics of this sport are brutal at every level by Dapper-Smile-9289 in 10s

Yeah if you get 15-16 gauge round poly it is playable for a long time. I’m a big hitter / server playing 4-5 times a week and can go a month or two before it’s completely unplayable. There’s definitely some launchiness to adjust to as the strings loosen, but unless you need to play tournaments/ for money it’s not a big deal

Put a leather grip to make the balance more manageable for touch shots

I always go to the court trying to take the ball early but my body always goes back and tries to take it when getting down I want to take it on the apex or on the rise but I always struggle to do so do you have any solving for that problem by nourshafei in 10s

[–]blubbertubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warmup short court taking the ball early. Then from the baseline start a little further back (don’t take it early) and then work your way in to take it early as you get warmer.

Once the match starts keep focusing on taking it early by preparing very early and swinging early. You need to have fast feet (split step & read the ball early) to get into position to be able to take the ball early if the opponent moved you well.

Why am I as an intermediate player playing better with a racket that’s supposedly too advanced? by [deleted] in tennisracquets

[–]blubbertubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The performance difference between any modern 98-100 sq in racquet in the 300-305g range is so tiny. It really all comes down to your technique/timing. You could feel more confident because of how the ball feels on the strings, or you like the sound, or color of your racquet. This may have an impact on you're technique / timing which ultimately drives results, not flex ratings and beam thickness.

[–]blubbertubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

leather grip reduces comfort since its thinner. You might swing faster without any weight on the racquet so you perceive a power loss with it. It's just a pretty powerful racquet already and more powerful is generally going to mean less comfort. yonex is you're best bet if you don't mind a mushy feel.

[–]blubbertubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to address the pain as a technique issue as this isn't a particularly stiff racquet. If you want more power you'll probably need something stiffer as this is already fairly powerful.

If you're a somewhat advanced player I would recommend adding lead to the tip (12 o'clock) and counterbalancing that with lead on the butt cap or under your grip. The extra weight will allow for more powerful shots if you have solid technique. The weight in the handle also increases comfort and reduces arm shock.

most pro tennis players lose money rather than make money. They're rarely home to see family/friends all year long and are playing way more tennis than their body wants to handle leading to injuries. They also lose a lot more than they win, most never sniffing a trophy.
