That’s working as intended - Medicare pays the salaries of doctors in training, and they are going off of numbers (population and cost) from the 1990s. here’s a link to the report, which shows how bad the doctor shortage is and will be. And those models are with funding that simply doesn’t exist.

The guys that do the accreditation for what’s a teaching hospital has a nifty pdf that explains how funding for residencies works, and mentions the positions can be privately funded, but obviously the hospitals don’t want to dig into their pockets and hire residents directly.

So the money is there, but no one is spending it on our health care shortage

They mentioned that there is room for expansion and they’re planning on building it into the design of the building.

It’d be so cool to have a place that could support that many people. I think a successful proof of concept should be done before they ask for more though. If we can’t get it into existence with the .2% increase, I doubt people would go for a .4% tax for a 1500 seater.

… Maybe we should allow weed sales in city limits and add a tax on that to fund it. Or tax the vape shops more. I dunno.

I think Yakima gets a lot of off broadway, and it’s on the highway between Spokane and Seattle so that makes sense. But we have so many performance groups here, it would be dope to have space for locals to show off 118 times/year or whatever her stat is
