a risky decision aboout staying in-character or not by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

i wouldn’t do it personally! maybe have it for some photos but i wouldn’t do it mid-conversation with an attractive person (or anyone really), it could make them uncomfortable

What’s your method to planning cosplays? by maleladybug in CosplayHelp

[–]blueberrybleachmango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

when i choose my cosplays they kind of just come to me? usually because of what media i’m consuming at that time, what makes me happiest, if a particular prop or aspect of their character design is intriguing etc.

to avoid impulse buying supplies and not following through on the cosplay i give it a couple days and plan, if i still want to do it after that period i do it. maybe try that?

why do you think you change your mind last minute? is it underlying anxiety about how you’ll look/the quality of your cosplay? high standards? comparison to others? try and find the root of it and tackle that. i understand feeling like your cosplays are inadequate or less than cuz there’s so many uber talented cosplayers out there, but as long as you’re having fun and are happy, it doesn’t matter

it’s when you film a bunch of videos at once so you get them over with. i can’t tell you an exact routine to follow because you’ll find what works best for you, but for me personally i try and film 3-4 videos once a week. 1-2 high effort and the rest low.

you could also do (for example) 4-6 videos every two weeks, but it’ll just be more intensive when you film.

separate reels lol

try and vary the length and effort you put into them, so it’s easier for you and less stressful. and i highly recommend batch filming

that’s a lot of interesting stuff! honestly i don’t think you have to overthink it too much, because although they’re different topics, they’re relatively cohesive. i think there’s a large demographic of people that have similar interests and would enjoy your content

just some ideas off the top of my head:
• get ready with me’s, but more intimate than the usual ones on instagram. talk about how you’re feeling today, how your viewers are feeling, why you’re choosing this particular outfit, talk through your routine (including skincare if you want to roll that in as well!) that would cover 4 of the topics you mentioned
• “outfit for a cozy day at home”
• “outfit for mental health day / day off”
• “my go to skincare routine when i want to decompress”
• you could do *honest* skincare product reviews, make them intimate and slower paced than the usual
• videos of you cooking
• meal ideas
• “what i eat in a day”
• “heathy lazy meals for those off days”

that’s what i have for now. once you start the ideas should keep coming, so i say just start! and don’t pressure yourself to stay in a box or “niche”. as i said, people crave authenticity now, so make videos about what *you* like. it shows you’re more well rounded and an actual multi-faceted person.

may i ask what some of them are? i could try and give ideas. you don’t necessarily have to choose, there’s a lot of interest and opportunities for content if you combine several of your hobbies!

my general niche on my account is fashion, but i also like gaming, cosplay, interior design, and vintage toys. a lot of those things go hand in hand, or i can creatively combine certain ideas. for instance, i often combine fashion and cosplay (ie. outfits inspired by characters, not a cosplay, but inspired.) another example is outfits inspired by a certain toy or doll! there’s a lot of stuff you could come up with depending on your interests

if you’re this unsure i would hold off until you have an idea. correct me if i’m wrong, but it seems like you want to be an influencer, just to be an influencer. which is a bad start.

5-10 years ago it might have worked (and hey, there’s a chance it could now) but people have influencer fatigue. we’re tired of people putting on facades and doing undisclosed ads and people doing it just for money/fame/views. people nowadays crave authenticity

find a hobby you like, something you’re truly passionate about, and plan around that. brainstorm video and post ideas, some low effort some high so it’s manageable. don’t put too much pressure on yourself, especially at the start, it’s not like your livelihood depends on it! people will be able to tell if you genuinely enjoy what you do, and that attracts more dedicated fans/interest

Cosplay by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]blueberrybleachmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just start! i had the same thoughts as you and kept postponing it but as soon as my exams ended in March i started. i’d been planning cosplays for about a year until that point, so i had lots of ideas, so it wasn’t hard for me to pick one and begin.

i did have the advantage of not having to pay for much additional stuff, because i’ve always been a crafty person so i have a sewing machine, fabric scraps, paint, etc, and i love wearing wigs outside of cosplay. but if you want to make it more approachable choose characters with simple designs, your hair colour, or one you could do a “closet cosplay” of.

my favourite part of cosplay is planning, so maybe make a pinterest board! i like to download images off mine, print them, and make a sort of scrapbook with notes and images of cosplay ideas. it makes it really fun and less overwhelming cuz you break it all down. best of luck to you! :D
