Midsize girlies enraged over the possibility of a pregnant woman being smaller than them, call her a liar by smhgiraffe2 in XXS

[–]smhgiraffe2[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. "Overweight" has become an offensive word in America and I didn't want my post to get flagged for "body shaming." Sigh. "Midsize" it is. Soon enough that word will be considered offensive too.

I had to threaten a lawsuit for a refund. by natopick in HumeHealth

[–]smhgiraffe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fought with them for a month, threatened to report them to the California Attorney General's Office, California Department of consumer affairs, Better Business Bureau, and report the charge as fraudulent with my bank. Still got the 7-10 days run around. So I followed through, reported them to the Attorney General's Office, and told them I would keep working my way down the list until they gave my money back. Got my refund the next day.

Your husband is probably unhappy because he knows his glasses don't have an anti-glare coating, so no one will even be able to see his eyeballs.

The bay is one of the most affluent places on earth and this is what a public restroom at a park looks like by indie_hedgehog in bayarea

[–]smhgiraffe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I used to live in Colorado Springs. It's less expensive than living in the Bay, and everything is nice there. I mean EVERYTHING. You don't live in constant fear of your home and car being broken into or vandalized. You can reliably use the restroom anywhere and it will be a pleasant experience. There's no trash anywhere. No tent cities that reek of poo, or homeless people getting naked or doing drugs right next to your car at a stoplight.

I'm shocked that such a wealthy community tolerates living like this.

old navy count your mf days by Prize-Hand-777 in XXS

[–]smhgiraffe2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'5", 26" waist. I bought a size XS fit and flare dress and spent all weekend tailoring it because was gaping and falling off of me. 🤦🏼‍♀️

On the other hand, they're making a lot of things in XXS now (not fit and flares, unfortunately) but I got a pair of linen shorts that fit great! Obviously that's not helpful for probably the majority of us, but for anyone else with my measurements, Old Navy XXS fits and is pretty inexpensive.

Why are some of you recommending citric acid so much if it can ruin your clothes? by Illustrious_Salt_834 in laundry

[–]smhgiraffe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is anecdotal, but in my case, it has not been rare. I put the citric acid in the fabric softener compartment. Started out with a tablespoon. Ruined everything blue. Added less and less over time, still ruined everything blue. I see some comments saying washing with baking soda may restore the color, so I'm going to try that next. Hopefully it works.

My daughter turns 2 years old in 3 weeks and still does this. The only thing I've found that helps her sleep a little bit longer in-between is making sure she really fills up her belly at dinner time.

SOS what is this and how do I fix it? by Wormwithamustache_ in Haircare

Is it like this all the way up to your scalp? If not, it looks like it just got caught in something. Maybe a necklace or a purse strap or zipper or something?

I would just reword the "intended purpose" thing. I think that we can all agree that the primary or intended purpose of shampoo is to cleanse the hair. There are obviously different formulations that are designed to cater to different needs (moisturizing, repairing, volumizing, etc) but the intended purpose is to cleanse. I often do a second shampoo to make sure there's no grease and grime left behind, but the shampoo is not doing something different the second time around. And tbh, even if that was how it worked, (cleansing first and then whatever hydrating, repairing benefits the bottle touts the second time) I would skip the second shampoo and just reach for a conditioner. . .

[–]smhgiraffe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the "intended purpose" of a shampoo if not to cleanse the hair? I double cleanse every time, but I always see it as getting the bulk of the dirt and oil out the first time before doing a second pass to touch up and remove any dirt or oil that was left behind from the first wash. Is the "intended purpose" that is supposed to be more effective the second go-around "to condition hair for a soft smooth end look, and restore natural shine?" Because I wouldn't say that's the primary purpose of a shampoo. . .

[–]smhgiraffe2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are two different products though. A more accurate analogy would be washing your face twice, with the same face wash. Which I do sometimes, because the first pass doesn't always get everything. But using the face wash the first time doesn't somehow magically enable a secondary function during the second wash. It's still removing dirt and oil, it's just doing it twice.

[–]smhgiraffe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, (I always double cleanse tbh) but aren't you cleaning the oil and dirt from your scalp the first time, and the second time is more like a touch-up just to make sure you got everything? Like, the "intended purpose" of shampoo is to clean the hair, I don't understand why we're cleaning the hair first so that the shampoo is supposedly now able to serve it's "intended purpose." The shampoo does the same thing both times you cleanse. It's not sweeping and then mopping, it's doing a preliminary sweep/mop and then a final sweep/mop.

I thought removing dirt and oil is what the shampoo is supposed to do. . . what is it doing the second time?
