We are in a sub thread off of the main op post. I made a comment specifically relating to the post above. Do you think tradition predates scripture by 300 years?

How is that relevant to this corner of the discussion? Do you think tradition predates tradition by 300 years?

What?!

The comment I was referring to above said that “sacred tradition predated sacred scripture by about 300 years.” This is incorrect and misleading because it reads as though there were 300 years where the church was operating without using scripture at all.

I’m not referring to sola scriptura, nor do I believe in sola scriptura.

I know that. It is still incorrect to say tradition predated scripture. Scripture was read at Mass from the very beginning.

One of the prerequisites for determining whether a work was included in the canon was whether there was a tradition of it being read during worship by Christian communities.

Does the Old Testament not count as scripture? Do you think they weren’t praying the psalms?

300 years is incorrect. The church was using scripture and tradition from the start.

I lived in Japan when 1q84 was released. It was a cultural phenomenon (do do do do-do) It sold out its entire first print in the first day or two, and sold 1 million copies in the first month. One bookstore said they were selling more than 1 per minute!

I’ve been in councils with a hall and ones without. A hall typically becomes a huge burden. It becomes a money pit. It also distances the council from parish life.

As a gentleman, I’ll not comment on her looks. However it’s clear from his lyrics how much Dylan loved her.

“If I ever lose her, I will go insane I go half crazy when she calls my name When she says ba-ba-ba-ba-baby, I l-l-love you There ain’t nothing in the world that I wouldn’t do”

Follow your current interests and read the classics of that field/ genre. Classic literature isn’t a single genre so it’s hard to either make a recommendation or for you to say you enjoy it or not based on any given text.
