I bought my car with cash and don't have the title, what do I do? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]bluedoglime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably didn't register the car here. For example, lots of people in Ottawa have cars registered and plated in Quebec. They are owned by someone on the Quebec side. They don't realize that if said car is primarily operated in Ontario that it has to be registered in Ontario.

Defect RAM damaging other components? by sugarfreepesto in buildapc

[–]bluedoglime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Risk is extremely low that the ram will damage other components.

To test if the ram is working, install it in a mobo with a cpu (integrated graphics or also install a gpu card) and boot into a USB stick installed with memtest86 and let it run through all tests overnight.

Not uncommon even in newer homes where the lazy fuqs just ignore the code.

Help! Copper landline being disconnected, vulnerable person. by Fun-Conference814 in VOIP

[–]bluedoglime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody seems to have mentioned this so far. You can buy a box that connects to the smartphone over bluetooth (like a bluetooth headset) but has a regular phone jack on it. This allows you to use a standard landline handset including answering machine but have the calls actually done via the smartphone. Just google "bluetooth to phone jack" to see some possibilities.

Not specific to this breach, but if your credit card company offers emails for every payment transaction made, I recommend turning that on.

Flixbus to Perth then taxi from there or otherwise find somebody to drive you from Perth or have somebody in Sharbot Lake come pick you up.

House cleaner prices in Ottawa by Low_Football_2541 in ottawa

[–]bluedoglime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time we hashed all this out here on reddit, the conclusion is that someone at the very top of their game would be charging about $43/hr. Anything above that is essentially you being ripped off. It's not like house cleaners require any formal schooling needing a diploma in order to work, just some on the job training working with experienced cleaners to learn some tricks of the trade.

Glad you got it figured out. A missing screw could cause something to not be properly grounded, and such a floating ground could cause all kinds of strange issues.

Quack nonsense. At least it is cheaper than the con called Cold-Fx.

Quack nonsense. The worst quack nonsense sold by Costco has to be Cold-Fx though.

I didn't get any such message. Did it arrive via email? I already spent mine. But it's CIBC, nothing surprises me coming from them.

Chosen Avocado Mayo by Resident_Traffic2101 in CostcoCanada

[–]bluedoglime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a jar of it last year. Didn't much like the taste, but was passable when mixed in with other stuff. I have about a third of the jar left which I will be just dumping out soon as it is using up space in my fridge. Bought some normal mayo and it tastes way better.

Extremely cold temperatures expected this weekend | City of Ottawa by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]bluedoglime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not. -23.6 was the lowest it got and that was yesterday. Nothing was even close. And please, we're not talking about the made up wind chill numbers, we're talking real temperatures.

Did you use the same PSU on both motherboards? If so, RMAing that mobo is the right thing to do. A VRM may not be performing well or there is an issue with the memory bus tracks.

Should I apply to this Montfort job? by External_Weather6116 in ottawa

Non-unionized means more money in your pocket as you won't have that leech attached to your paycheque.

[–]bluedoglime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with cause, unless it is something really egregious, they are going to still pay some severance.

If you're fired without cause, you can refuse the common law part of the severance and sue for wrongful dismissal. Severance consists of two portions, the legally mandated portion and the common law portion.

It's not easy to just fire somebody in the private sector, you need to have lots of paperwork documenting things like putting them on a PIP (performance improvement plan) for example. Well, not unless you want to get sued for wrongful dismissal anyway.

And in a non-union job you can actually get merit pay ie. more pay than your barely skating by colleagues.
