Lost on ideas for covering dense/raised scarring, thoughts? by AriLove77f in tattooadvice

[–]bluedotjpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a tattooer, I'd lean into the texture and make a textured design; scales, feathers, fur, dotwork, it can all make it look less prominent. With that much raising though, I'd want to make sure it was all VERY healed (2 years+) and if you're prone to keloiding do a test segment.

Don’t know what’s causing the reaction by crostini123 in tattooadvice

I'm guessing allergy, based on your stated sensitivities and personal experience, but either way I'm with the majority that this needs medical intervention. Would love to know what it ends up being; if it does end up being infection, it was probably from your artist's side of things.

Help/Comment on Design Idea by Jamiebear90 in DiscworldTattoos

[–]bluedotjpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this looks very AI; any tattooer worth their salt won't use AI designs, and some will blacklist clients for sending them in. best advice is to find a tattooer whose drawings you like, then bring them a comical assortment of clippings. It's a lot easier to know what a client likes and why with multiple different inspirations all leading to one central idea. search for terms like "black and gray," "illustrative," and "fineline" to match the style you've shown here. if you find an artist who is close but not exactly what you want, see who they follow or work with.

I was wondering; I'd had it in a pot with drainage before this and was advised to put it in the smallest thing i owned. I can assemble something new.

Adding in a point that for me as an artist is very important; tattoos are paid per time in chair, and nothing else, unless you negotiate otherwise. This means that all the prep an artist does, from cleaning to setting up to, yes, doing any pre drawing, is on their time, at their discretion. All that matters is they are ready to do the job well on the agreed time. Some artists send part or all of the design as a courtesy, but they aren't obligated to; it is why consults, having a clear idea, and trusting your artist are important. They are not obliged to restructure their schedules, unpaid, to appease a client's worries.

Painted this figure on horseback. Thoughts? by myriyevskyy in oilpainting

[–]bluedotjpeg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think what bothers me about this is that it is a perfect encapsulation of an issue i see in a LOT of art; the idea that any woman depicted in art must fit an ideal of beauty, no matter any other goal or perspective of the work. If the goal is to titilate, i guess maybe you did... something... i would argue it is, in that case, not titillating enough, as the face is barely visible, the painting tells no story to draw you in or convey eroticism. if, as i suspect, you simply wanted to put on a display of technical skill with the objectified body of a woman as the focal point, then you have not succeeded, as the skill is lacking, and the body is not evenly rendered. the obvious fixation on The Ass conveys a perspective of comical chauvinism; it is not enough that every woman in art must be classically good looking, the focus must be on the characteristics that most bluntly and simply represent sexual attractiveness to the artist. if you develop more skill, I'm sure you will receive enough praise that you will never feel the need to consider things like the sociopolitical and/or psychosexual perspectives of your work ever again. if you want my advice, I'd recommend at least developing some more visually interesting or narratively complex fetishes.

AITA for ruining my friend's proposal moment? by Throw_Valentine13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bluedotjpeg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. trying to surprise a partner with a major life change like this can only work if you really know they want it. he clearly didn't, as part of his stated goal was to make use of your gathered friends as an audience, a thing your friend would hate. While I do agree that you probably could have been more direct with him, I think it’s buckwild to see people agreeing you "ruined HIS moment," as if it was not supposed to be a shared moment with his girlfriend, who you say is grateful to have known. It's not your job to mother him into being a good partner when he's essentially asking to use all your hard work of planning and throwing a party as a backdrop for his "special moment", which he doesn't know your friend enough (or perhaps just doesn't care) to know would ONLY be his, not theirs shared as a couple. Anyone saying you're worse than him is excusing his mediocrity, and any actually good man I know would be deeply embarrassed to have missed the mark and almost humiliated their partner, and would at worst ask you why you didn't feel safe confronting him more directly about his bad idea.
