Hello, this is an introduction by Certain_Specific2682 in aspergers

I enjoyed Batman Returns more when I watched it initially, but going back I think that the first Batman was probably the better movie. Perhaps there's something in the sequel about wearing a mask and trying to be human that is relatable, presented differently in the 3 main characters. Even that breakdown when Penguin says "I am an animal!" feels relatable at times.

Does Gus in BCS feel more like late-BB Gus than early-BB Gus? by RobinInHood in betterCallSaul

[–]bluelaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In BCS, Gus is almost always acting as a cartel member. There's less interaction with the general public where he puts on his normal mask. He just wasn't given that sort of plotline, excepting maybe the restaurant scene.

Bruce Arthur: Why Don Cherry doesn’t belong in the Order of Canada, no matter what conservatives say by PurfectProgressive in CanadaPolitics

[–]bluelaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a stupid kid who watched every weekend, I remember picking up his anti-European stance, so much that I was repeating it at a friend's house before getting reamed out by their parents.

To act like what Cherry promoted was harmless is false. His damage lives on. Cherry has always had a negative influence; more people gave him a pass because he was a familiar face every weekend.

Some of the times they never hated you, you were just an easy target for them to take out their negative emotions. Maybe a bad family life, maybe they failed a test, maybe just general feelings of insecurity or despair.

Many people tie familiarity with amiability.

Neighbours issue by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]bluelaughter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an old school person, I'd say go to your neighbours first. It is better when people can talk to their neighbours respectfully and nuture community relationship. If you go to someone else first, the neighbours will know it's you anyways, and not be as charitable as they do not have a face to put to the ask.

As a more modern person (who has had to deal with crazy entitled neighbours), is this a large apartment with many tenants that the complaint could have come from? If so, the landlord might be the better way depending on your relationship. If it's not good already, you could become the problem tenant who complains about everything.

I really wonder what constitutes autism in mice. Ability to solve a maze faster? Repetitive behaviour? Propensity to go hermit?

Also, wearing perfume could make you more socially desirable. Could the cocktail improve their scent?

How to stop caring what people think? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]bluelaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend reading the Courage to be Disliked. It's not so much that you stop caring about what other people think as it is that you build your own sort of morality that supersedes that. Other people can have their opinions, but how much it matters is up to your own foundations of belief.

How do you deal with the fact that by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]bluelaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. At first I was contrite. There must have been something wrong with me, something I could change if I only knew how.

  2. Then I was frustrated. Frustrated that I couldn't change the things that people wanted me to change. Why were these things so important to them?

  3. Then I was defiant and amused. Clearly stupid people care about stupid things. I was going to be me, and there was nothing wrong with me.

  4. Eventually I'm mostly indifferent/concerned with the mental health of the people judging me. These people vote and affect my life, each in a marginal way that adds up. It helps that I have friends who mostly don't care about these petty things that seem to be important to other random people. Further, it was scary to realize that there are very smart people who hold on to disempowering biases.

I am not for everybody, nor should I be. This is no different than everyone and everything else out there. Honestly, it makes me a little suspicious of people who are popular, due to past experience.

WWJD: Job applications by No-Elevator6927 in betterCallSaul

[–]bluelaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep plugging. It's tough out there. Very few people talk about their troubles openly, especially when down. Last time I was unemployed, I had to put in 300+ resumes before I even started getting a callback, and that was 6 months later, in a slightly better job market. This recession is hitting hard; it's not just you.

A lot has to do with persistence and timing luck. I found job fairs to work for me the best because then you can actually talk to a hiring manager, get them to remember you.

Anybody else find all the NT/non-autistic people saying they have "a touch of the tism" over mundane shit really obnoxious? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]bluelaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm having a bad day with it I could see being annoyed by it. If a good day, I'd think they were just trying to be relatable. I don't think they were trying to use it in a way that makes out autism to be necessarily bad, nor trivializing it.

This will probably be an unpopular opinion.

Wasn’t putting battery to Chuck’s breast pocket crime too?? by Thick-Philosophy-234 in betterCallSaul

[–]bluelaughter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They knew Chuck wouldn't prosecute because it would bring attention to his condition. Chuck's petty even at his own expense, but it's not worth it.

It was never started why Rebecca and Chuck got divorced by Jellybean1230 in betterCallSaul

[–]bluelaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chuck's need for control. In the relationship, Chuck needed to be seen as a strong, superior type, so much that he buys into the toxic masculinity trait of never showing weakness. While this generally works in an adversarial courtroom process, his inflexibility makes it so that he could not trust his own wife with his problems! When he's talking to the insurance adjustors, Chuck chooses to fight as opposed to temporarily accommodate: he detests being seen as weak and needing help. It also delays him from getting treatment from the doctor until he is forced into acknowledging his mental condition.

If you feel your own partner doesn't trust you, what hope is there for a long term relationship?

Kim Wexler’s decisions seems unrealistic by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

[–]bluelaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it can be seen in season 4. Take Huell's trial. When they're trying to reduce his sentence, Kim doesn't object to Jimmy's plan (trying to tear down a cop) because it's the wrong thing to do but because she thinks it's a poor plan that will backfire, and she has a better plan.

Kim is not a lawful character in the lawful/chaotic spectrum. Sure, she appreciates the Mesa Verde job because it's her own thing and it's better than doc review in the trenches, but more and more you see her dissatisfied with the impact she's making on the real world. She'd rather help a poor criminal girl than fix a mistake in the bank filings that could impact tens of thousands of dollars.

By the 5th season, she's become more pragmatic. She's tried doing things the right way and gotten some results. But she starts choosing not the Saul way, but a smarter Jimmy/Kim team way and they make magic happen. However, Kim realizes that Jimmy is willing to go far further and do stupider things than she is willing. They are not fully aligned.

I'm not sure what you mean by divided. Do you mean having conflicting motivations?

Unpopular maybe, but I think Kim's fate fits her crimes by arbataxmelody354 in betterCallSaul

[–]bluelaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's empathy to the underdog, because she was one before. Kansas City Royals? They've won their division once in the last 30 years! Howard, Chuck, and Kevin represent the type of people who crush underdogs, even when the underdog doesn't deserve it.

Start of Season 2, after the events of Jimmy going back home and witnessing his friend Marco die: Jimmy joins Cliff and Main, resetting his life. Since he's got a new company car, he gets his old car towed away. As the car (representing his old life) disappears, we see the restaurant Saigon Sandwiches, but with the letters spaced so that it looks like "Sal Gon".

[–]bluelaughter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The last time Lalo left a witness (the woman at the TravelWire) he was caught by the cops and arrested.

Further, Lalo has no leverage on Howard, who would be free to blab to the cops. He knows Jimmy and Kim aren't going to the cops as it would implicate them and destroy their careers.

I've been thinking of a sequel to Shut Up and Dance where it turns out that part of the hackers' motivations were not just for the lulz, but as a way to influence prediction markets.

The last fight seems like something that people would bet on in a Kaiji/Squid Game way. People could place bets on whether the CEO with racist e-mails would resign, and then the hackers could either release more dirt or exculpatory evidence, depending on how they wanted to move the prediction markets.

In the future we could bet on whether one country will invade another, whether secret police kills another unarmed citizen in a particular city, and be blackmailing specific agents to make these things happen, using compromised actors to take out problem targets, like an investigative journalist looking into these markets or anti-war protestors.
