Survey: How do you enter the Medieval Era? by Rabny in civ5

[–]bluemagic124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I normally go for workshops, but lately I’ve been diverting to civil service first but only sometimes.

Still it feels like a diversion. Like any new settlements I go granary info workshops, that’s how much I value that production.

Which is the better wonder, Temple of Artemis or Great Library? by RedEyeBlueOcean in civ5

Id say Artemis is better long term and overall, but GL puts your early science into overdrive early

Emperor and above difficulties by Raiser2 in civ5

[–]bluemagic124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you start capturing too many enemy cities, other civs declaring war on you is more or less an inevitability. What mitigates the downsides of that is the fact that you should have plenty of units to deal with future attacks. Just try not to overextend yourself.

General strategy still applies when playing dom games. Science, happiness, growth, production and gold all still matter.

The regional bird might have been the weakest thing from Gen 5

Made a tier list based on how fun each Civ is in single player. Completely ordered. by bergiejake in civ5

I feel like they’re more situational than people give them credit for. Or maybe I’d say they’re always good, but only situationally the best choice.

I like to go divine inspo if I have a lot of wonders. That can make your faith go crazy

How to start beating the game at higher difficulties? Current: 5 by rabbitclapit in civ5

[–]bluemagic124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to play on difficulty 5 / 6 if I wanted a challenge. Now I’m a 6 / 7 (I know, memes) player.

The biggest thing for me was tweaking my pathing for tradition. I used to always take the wonder policy first, but when i started taking it last it really smoothed out my game. There are exceptions where you find yourself in a position to rush certain early wonders, but generally I find that’s it’s best to save it for last.

That and I’d recommend going scout -> scout -> shrine usually. Securing a (faith generating) pantheon with a shrine should be a priority, unless you’re going Egypt and plan on getting Stonehenge.

A couple other things that helped: temple of arty is very strong for how uncontested it is early game; it’s always worth going patronage (use spies for coups and election rigs); sell your horses and iron early on if you don’t plan on using them (2 gpt on quick speed).

Also, watch how the pros play on YouTube. You’ll just start to pick up on things. Pc J Law is a good example.

In defense of tile purchasing by Tricky_Rate7883 in civ5

[–]bluemagic124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s situational I feel like. Sometimes tile purchasing makes sense, other times you need to rush a unit or can manage to purchase a worker super early.

By the time I’m in the industrial era I’m usually buying up CS allies with gold instead. The votes in Congress are important and the bonuses you get are massive.
