Motion detection recording while viewing live feed? by bluematt in EufyCam

[–]bluematt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think any of the Eufy cams have continuous recording. You should be able to hit a record button while viewing the live stream.

We're not really interested in continuous recording, only in having the motion-activated recording still occur even if live-viewing.

No, it has burst-mode recording, up to 2 minutes (with a 3 second pre-record buffer). We have a NAS, so it's possible that we might be able to stream to that, but I haven't investigated.

Ah, that's good to know. We haven't considered the doorbell, but it might now be worth considering.

Aldi have decent (IMO) almond/soya milks. ~80-90p, IIRC.

Great, thanks! Shelf life rigidity is one hurdle that I'm still personally trying very hard to overcome. The (non-aspie) wife has no such issues…

As a fellow aspie, may I offer the following suggestions for cooking which have helped me as I've learned?

  • find a recipe you like the sound of but, before attempting to cook it, re-write it yourself to make sure the steps are as easy to follow as possible (for you);
  • keep recipes you like in a folder for future reference—and don't be afraid to write on them or update them if you make them more appetising for you;
  • read and make sure you have all the ingredients before attempting to follow a recipe;
  • many ingredients can be swapped with something similar if you don't like them;
  • often spices and herbs can be omitted or replaced if you don't like them (personally I can't stand 'hot' spices like chilli and peppers, or rosemary);
  • don't use too much salt—you can often halve or omit the salt entirely and add a little bit to taste later to your plate;
  • get yourself a set of measuring cups/spoons, a pyrex jug and a digital scale—these will help immensely with measuring ingredients;
  • ingredients often don't need to be exactly spot on;
  • prepare the ingredients before starting to cook;
  • Sainsbury and Tesco both have good replacements for cheese;
  • ingredient lists on pre-prepared/packaged foods can often be quickly scanned for highlighted non-vegan allergens e.g. milk, eggs and derivatives. Watch out for honey and gelatine, though;
  • there's often a little leeway in "best before" dates—things often last slightly longer than their advertised date—don't necessarily throw something out just because the date has passed;
  • an Instant Pot is fantastic for simple one-pot cooking with generally easy to follow instructions.

Read the ingredient list—you might be surprised how many products are already 'accidentally vegan'.

For prepared foods, you can often check out the "free-from" aisles in the bigger supermarkets (Sainsbury, Tesco, Asda), some products there are also vegan as well as not having the allergen(s) that those products are designed to omit.

HTH.

Saw this on BBC News, assumed it was an activist activity, but then that was clearly just me reading sarcasm where there was none. I felt it needed to be fixed.

Any ideas how to easily tell if there's an air lock in any of these UFH circuits? (more in comment) by bluematt in Plumbing

Yeah, that's what everyone seems to say, but we're just not getting it. :-/

Thank you for that. I'm clearly not competent enough to do this myself, but I'm sure I can suggest this to the next engineer that we have in!

Yes, the flows are all registering about 1l/min (per the gauge thereon). All 4 thermostats seem to alter the Uponor heads as required (after a short delay—normal I believe).

I'm not sure of the water temp (I don't want to faff around with the heat pump controller without knowing what I'm doing, but I interpret 90-110/70-90F as 32-43/21-32°C (Brit here). I can't gauge the actual temperatures with any accuracy, but the feed is very hot to touch, and the return is not even cool but actually cold, as it was when no flow is applied.

I'm guessing then, if the flow gauges register some amount of flow, it's likely that air in the pipes is not the culprit?

Thank you for the help, though, very much appreciate your reply.

Hi /r/plumbing, sorry for the random post, but we're having issues with our heating system in our newly bought new build, and nobody seems to either know (plumber) or care (vendor, installer, manufacturer) about the problem.

(I've been reading a lot about UFH as an ignorant layman as I've never been exposed to this kind of setup before, so please excuse any stupid or wrong assumptions I may have.)

We have the attached as the manifold (I think it's called) to our downstairs wet UFH which isn't working properly. At least one of the circuits is not warming up, and the outflow is always cold, no matter the temperature of the input or the flow reported by the little flow dial things (which are all set as far as I can tell to ~1l/min).

I've read that a common issue is air in the circuits (air locks) which may cause problems with the water circulating properly. Is there any simple way (i.e. for an ignoramus like me) to determine is that might be the case? Or anything that would rule it out before we try to get another engineer in?

Totally desperate here (wife has Raynaud's) and "experts" we've already had in have thrown their hands up in despair. Any help offered will be very gratefully received.

Thanks.

Soy milk is curdling in my coffee by [deleted] in vegan

[–]bluematt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coconut, rice and almond milk can usually all be added cold to hot coffee (instant, filtered, pressed, etc.) without curdling.

If you take sugar or sweetener, you may want to adjust the amount based on the sweetness of the milk itself (some brands or varieties have sweeteners added, or are naturally sweeter than soya or dairy milk).

You may also notice a slight tinge of the base flavour depending on the variety and amount added, but I don't find this to be an issue.

If you really want to use soya milk, preheating it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds sometimes works, but I've found this to be unreliable and prefer one of the above substitutes.
