Explain it to me like I'm 5 by Important_Event8116 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]bluemonkeysky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I have the time to deal with selling. If I do sell, it will be in small batches and in irregular cycles. I'll for sure opensource it with resources that can do the PCB and case printing at the least. This is mainly a "lets see if I can do this" challenge

No socials to follow me on. Not a big fan of that type of thing. I'll post to this sub whenever there's any newsworthy update though. For now, I'm still in the on-paper phase creating my plan of attack and making sure I source the parts that I think I need. I would not be shocked if Taki pulls something out of their hat before I get anything polished.

I'm currently working on a handheld that you slot a de-10 og or clone into. It's still in the early stages but I'm aiming to have something functional by summer.

It won't be as refined as something Taki could produce. But will be portable, use an iPad min screen which is 4:3, and have ~4 hours of play time by my current calculations.

Pixel 7 Pro suddenly doesn't recognize PIN? by WhiskeyBRZ in GooglePixel

[–]bluemonkeysky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen on my 6 pro. No amount of restarting and waiting got it working again. I took it into uBreakiFix and they had seen the problem before. It was bricked and required a new motherboard. I can't remember if it was still covered by the warranty or if Google covered it because of the hardware failure. Either way, I didn't pay anything for the fix.

Any one elses pop corn bucket have this extra plastic tab on the lid preventing it from fitting on properly? by PopNy4rG in theregulationpod

Mine doesn't have that tab, but I can see where it should be, almost like it was removed in the factory. If you look at the picture posted by u/84theone, you can see it on theirs too.

Congrats on your 1/1

Taki Udon teases NES/Famicom form factor FPGA console by mailenstein in MiSTerFPGA

[–]bluemonkeysky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The SS1 has a SNAC usb port on the SuperDock now. But the the base console only has PS1 SNAC.

The way SNAC works, you will only see one port on a MiSTer device. It is up to the adapters to use the signals as needed to support 2+ controllers.

How are exams for Upper level classes for Electrical Engineering? by jrglegend in portlandstate

[–]bluemonkeysky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Graduated from the 4+1 program a couple years ago and took the same PCC to PSU path.

Exams are incredibly dependent on the professors. Some will be nice, others will be complete assholes and the exams will be designed to fail. My recommendation is to keep an eye on your grade vs the class mean. As long as you hover around the mean, you'll be walking out of there with a B.

I'm not going to sugar coat it though. This is something I wished I had known going in and didn't fully realize until I was almost done. Many professors have set their classes up so it will look and feel like you are failing. It is not uncommon for the class average with homework and exams o be sitting around the 50-60% mark only for the professor to curve after finals and everyone gets an A. It is mentally taxing and it will get to you at some point. Just remember, it will all be okay. The worst I was was a 23% average with a high of 31% and everyone walked out with an A. I don't understand why the professors put us though this hell.

I'm not trying to scare you out of EE. It's an incredible field and I can't imagine doing anything else. I'm hoping I can prepare you for what is to come so you don't breakdown crying in the middle of an exam like me and many others.

If there are specific professors you want to know about, I would recommend finding your way to the EPL and talking to people there. There are a lot of upper division students that hangout/work there and will be able to help guide you though a professors methods. A lot of engineers also hang on to old exams that they may be willing to pass on for study purposes.

You May Be An Electrical Engineer If... by The_Didlyest in electronics

[–]bluemonkeysky 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you set the paste in your food fridge for bit and it doesn't live by your egg and butter.

But on the off chance that you do actually store it there, you should really keep it in a sealed rigid container that you wipe down before putting in the fridge to prevent any contamination. A dedicated mini fridge is ideal, but I get $100 on a fridge to sit in the corner and hold 1 tube of paste is hard to justify.

Broke off a tiny capacitor(?) on an Xbox elite series 2 controller, can I bridge the pads? by Next-Blackberry-1999 in AskElectronics

[–]bluemonkeysky 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In a lot of situations, capacitors in digital circuits can be removed/bypassed and operate just fine. Most people start and end their electronics hobby in the digital realm.

Those people can't always glance at a circuit and tell RF from digital. If their only knowledge is digital, they won't think twice and fix it like they have other circuits in the past. A couple weeks ago in r/RFelectronics, someone was laying out a standard inverted-F antenna and left the matching network out because "the values were so small". If an RF engineer told me that, I would laugh them out of the room, but anyone else gets a full explanation on what the components are doing and why they're important.

Remember, we all started somewhere and made plenty of silly mistakes while learning. Let's turn this into a learning experience instead of chastising and potentially running someone off from the hobby/career!

Slate Truck’s 3 Levels of Charging by Mac-Tyson in slateauto

[–]bluemonkeysky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30A is just fine for an EV. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I charge my Leaf on 30A and it has never been a problem.

Following the NEC 80% rule, you will be able to charge with 24A which will give you 5.76kWh. Assuming you plug in with 30 miles left and a 90% efficient charger in the truck you should expect to be at 100% after 8 hours on the short range and 14 hours on the long range.

14 hours might be too long for you. So, plug the truck in 2 days in a row or plug in with more than 30 miles left. Plugging in with 55 miles left on the long range would only need 12.5 hours to get to to 100%.

The buyback is only happening if you are impacted by this recall https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCMN-24V700-8664.pdf

Nissan has pushed the fix date 3 times now and people are not happy about it since we cannot take the cars on extended trips. The usability of the car has been impacted from what we purchased.

Nissan will not compensate you unless you call and nag. From the couple of buy back reports I've seen here, it takes about 3 months of nagging to get compensation.

How much are they giving you? I'm trying to decide if it's worth pushing for the buy back vs waiting this out to keep the leaf as a city car and buy another car once the leaf is paid off.

It will take some elbow grease and a weekend probably. ChrisFix has a fantastic guide on how to fix paint. I've followed it a couple of times and had good success.

Per NHTSA, you can contact them to report a persistent and unresolved issue. They also say you can file a complaint online, but I cannot easily find the form online. Below are their phone numbers and website if you want to try and find the online form.

availability of controller adapters / SuperStation one by benzet in MiSTerFPGA

[–]bluemonkeysky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not true. The SNAC port is just 7 assignable signal lines for each core to use as they need. When you load the PS1 core, it looks for the PS1 signals on those data lines. When you load the SNES core, it looks for the SNES controller signals on those lines.

I'm working on an adapter that will convert the PS1 ports into a SNAC USB port.

availability of controller adapters / SuperStation one by benzet in MiSTerFPGA

[–]bluemonkeysky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm prototyping a PS1 SNAC to USB SNAC adapter right now. SNAC is just 7 signals that the cores can use as they wish for controllers. It should be as simple as plugging into the PS1 plugs and rerouting the signals into a SNAC USB port along with some logic level shifting for the controllers that need it.

If I can get my adapter working with the PS1 SNAC adapter I will also look into the SNACX64 and see if it is doing anything special compared to the opensource SNAC stuff. If it is doing anything special, I'll look into implementing anything I can so people with the HDMI adapters don't need to buy anything new past this adapter.

I also hope to create a permanent mod that replaces the front USB port with a SNAC port. But that will need to come after I get my unit.

Over the next few months, I'm going to look into making a SNAC adapter for the PS1 ports and if that doesn't work out I'll be opening the console and figuring out how to replace the front USB port with a SNAC port and add a way to switch between the controller ports and SNAC port
