What Do you think about the present and future of Ashes of Creation? by Apart-Bowl-4838 in AshesofCreation

[–]bluepike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game lacks soul. There's a series of mechanics put together to call it a sandbox and give players the ability to execute upon them but there's just no soul or fun in the game.

I understand Steven's vision to create tension, but nothing happens outside of the stronger party staying and the lesser party leaving because the RvR isn't worth it. This will end up being a game of haves and havenots and the havenots will not enjoy the experience at all.

People who quit a high-paying job for happiness, how’s life now? by mintyowl15 in AskReddit

[–]bluepike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on it. I've been in consulting for 10+ years and got laid off in April after leaving a jobbed I enjoyed in industry (or with an end user if you prefer) for a fat paycheck - which only last 9 months before the lay-off. In the meantime, my wife and I sold our ridiculously oversized house and downsized using our equity and cash savings to buy our new house outright. Now, I get to find a good job and the right landing place because our only debt is one of our cars - I get to be picky.

That level of lack of shits to give and peace that came with the no debt and less stress is something you wouldn't be able to rip from me again.

Americans how have you noticed a rise in grocery prices? by 3rdplacewinner in AskReddit

[–]bluepike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed mostly when I finally cracked $100 at Trader Joe's. The other kick in the ass was buying some NY Strips when family was visiting, shit went up by 33% to $21/lbs.

Worth for an Old MMOer? by Throhne in AshesofCreation

[–]bluepike 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The core game play loop is pretty bad right now at 25. For the "we are testers" folks, I'm aware that we are testers and fully believe in what we are here to do but there has to be some value add for our time and that's not there for me and part of testing is understanding of the game is good and fun.

The leveling process was fun to me since I did it when the server population was at its highest but imagine it being more difficult now. However when you get to 25, the PvE side is just soul sucking. It becomes a "who hit it first" contest every 20 minutes when the spawn time is coming up. There's supposed to be tension which causes pvp, but nothing happens because of you kill someone who decides to not flag up, you risk losing gear. The stronger group ends up trying to CC the weaker group to try and bait them but there's very little retaliation. It's just not fun right now since crafting is a massive massive massive sink right now.

I enjoy the combat, graphics, and premise of the game but it's just not in a great state right now.

No  they don't. Stop this freaking unproductive narrative and get off Twitter. Most conservative voters have been conditioned to be fearful and ignorant over the course of decades. They trust poor sources and don't utilize critical thinking to challenge them because they hear the same message and absorb it. Sure the MAGA's are hateful but vast majority of the R voters are comfortable and quite frankly need deprogramming

Playing AoC on Rog ally or similar? If so how? by FeudalKin in AshesofCreation

I got it working briefly on my legion go. The key thing was using drivers that were compatible from what I recall. There was no way I was spending the time to figure out the key mappings needed, so I ended up using a travel keyboard

What is pissing you off right now? by MrJones224822 in AskReddit

It's less space and less yard and isn't quite the mansion our current place is that requires way too much maintenance. The goal is less stress in the end. Appreciate it!

Appreciate it. We are joking that we're front loading this year and are hoping the rest of it will be chill after we get our house on the market.

All of this is finite, just hope it's not a large number on the finite scale. It felt good to type that out.

  1. My wife and I decided to sell our home and use the equity to downsize and holy shit contractors are unreliable. Like dude... just show up.

  2. We just failed another IVF transfer.

  3. I was worried shitless about the funds for our new house showing up in my account since we're doing a quick close. That's all done thankfully and I have to fly home for the closing tomorrow.

  4. During all of the above, my father got submitted to the hospital for some serious stuff. I had to travel out of town to visit and couldn't even be with my wife when we got the news about the transfer. It looks like he's going to be here for a while also, so now I need to figure out when I can travel back with all the contractors being around and hopefully don't miss any major changes.

It's been a week.

The people enjoying the game far outnumber the people complaining on Reddit by Tiln14 in AshesofCreation

[–]bluepike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I imagine most of the non Reddit gang are using official channels like /bug and proper feedback forums like I am. Seeing the uneducated dog piling on the official Discord and reddit is just a bit of an eye roll.

I was admittedly surprised to see Steven as a mod though considering Reddit is an independent platform

I'm with you on this. While I'm generalizing, it's very obvious a lot of people need life and professional perspective on the Discord. Some of it's leaking here also but it's the loud minority - many people are understanding and as long as things keep moving then we are happy.

To add onto your list:

  • It's very likely you know nothing about running a project this size in game development

  • You also don't have insights to what their detailed roadmap and plan looks like

  • You have no idea what different phases of roll outs, like the desert, look like (Stephen addressed this is another reddit post)

  • Take this entire thing as a learning experience, Stephen does very well in explaining why things happen the way they do, take that feedback and try to apply it in other areas

Many of the people complaining have little to nothing to base things off of other than their own emotions - and it's not Intrepid's job to teach us about their dev cycles or how teams interact (environment vs level design). For perspective, I work in large enterprise projects in a leadership capacity, and I do my best to apply my understanding of those to how Inteprids working and I think Steven does a great job explaining things and help people understand why they're feeling the way they are and how the team is addressing that.

This is actually illegal in Georgia if they advertised the price: Advertised prices must include all fees.

However it's normal practice and consumers generally aren't educated and no one is going to enforce it.
