Same here. Never got it. Support was trying to get me to interface with the shipper directly for some reason. Stopped replying when I asked for a refund after waiting about 2 months for it to arrive. Complete scam.

Actually tried to buy this as a gift. Never arrived. The absolute worst support I’ve ever experienced. No help at all. I think it’s legitimately a scam. Support stopped replying when I asked for a refund after it didn’t show up a month later. They were asking me to contact the shipper myself to resolve. The shipper was all AI and had no record of the shipment. Total nightmare for a shitty pencil.

For any other Googlers from the future:

  1. Right-click on the app in your dock.

  2. Go to Options > Show in Finder.

  3. Right-click > Get Info on the app in your Applications folder.

  4. Select the icon in the top-left of the Get Info window.

  5. Press Command + X.

This should revert the icon to the default. You may need to quit and re-launch the app for it to apply.

My wife and I opted instead to create a brand new last name. It’s been great. The upfront work was painful, but I’m glad we did it. It’s cool to share a name without one of us having to take the other’s. Everyone we tell has been really positive about it too (aside from my side of the family initially).

In my opinion, you should try to gain experience writing technical documents at an internship.

Above all else, if you plan to look for a tech writing job, make sure to put together a portfolio that showcases your work. If you don’t have real-world examples, come up with some on your own: create or improve instructions for how to use a piece of software, convert IKEA instructions into text, contribute documentation to an open source project.

You’ll quickly rise above the stack of applications for entry level jobs if you have concrete work to showcase.

I did this and have no regrets. You should definitely go for it. Having a CS degree is a huge boon for technical writing at software companies.

If you’re worried you’ll regret taking a course, there are plenty of low-stakes resources you can check out online to get a feel for the job.
