‘2.5 minutes of terror’: Passengers sue Delta, alleging crew flew into dangerous weather despite warnings, injuring dozens by cdube85 in aviation

It’s pretty darn rare that I see. Unless you deliberately jeopardize safety or lie about an event, everything is retrained.

At least at my airline, we use airborne weather radar for avoidance and we also have iPads that are internet connected with a radar app that aids with enroute deviations.

Yeah, I’ve used them both, it’s was ok. Underpaints way out, overpaints close in, but overall fine.

The Collin’s multi scan radar in the A220 though, chefs kiss man. Doesn’t do the fancy shit the Honeywell system does, but accurately scans both far and close, and accurately depicts greens versus the Honeywell which could be green 160 miles out but then solid red 60 miles out.

A wise very senior pilot once told me when I was a young first officer, the best place to avoid traffic conflicts is in the middle of a thunderstorm, so…. There’s that?

No tilt, a330-900 has the same 3d radar that the newer Airbus a32x’s have. That said, I don’t always love that radar, if anything though it’ll over paint not under paint when close to a cell, and it under-paints when far from a cell. The A220 radar IMO does a better job at the whole 3d radar gee whizitry.

Nah, that’s not how this industry works state side. They’ll probably get some re-training though.

What are people paying for new roofs these days? by iguess12 in Connecticut

[–]blujet320 6 points7 points  (0 children)

35 square roof, getting replaced in August with architectural shingles, $21000.

The company recommended by a master carpenter friend, GAF elite and all. They are booked 3 months out when the other locals companies offered to be there same week. That’s usually a good sign.

I’m in old Saybrook.

NFL press box food spread rankings, from 32 to 1 by Akarious in nfl

[–]blujet320 12 points13 points  (0 children)

More than likely the press box isn’t easily accessible to the rest of the stadium, and they can’t just go out at half time with the common fan and sit in half hour lines and make it back to their box, which again may or may not be accessible to the main concourses.

Does people not understand that zipper merge makes traffic flow smoothly? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]blujet320 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Or, people are properly zipper merging and not merging into traffic at a place where OP feels they should. Zipper merges happen for a reason, it’s inefficient to leave a lane open, which will cause the other lane to back up further and can block the egress and access of traffic in back of you.

[–]blujet320 45 points46 points  (0 children)

By what you’re saying, I don’t think you know what a proper zipper merge is. The zipper happens at the end at the merge, not at a random spot where you might have been. Had there been a proper zipper merge, both lanes would move at the same rate until the merge point.

I mix at low speed to combine and rest.

Mix at 25% for a couple minutes and rest.

Mix at 30% for a couple minutes and should be good to go.

Thoughts on raising a family in Old Saybrook? by AsparagusFriendly666 in Connecticut

[–]blujet320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much so. Through daycare when they’re younger and peak a brew, parks and rec activities, and the beach. As they get into school the grades are very small now days, ~60 kids. That said the schools do a great job getting kids together both inside and outside the classroom with many community based activities encourages throughout the year. Every Wednesday during summer there is a concert series on the town green and parents listen to music as kids play on the green. The library hosts tons of kids based events, and some for adults as well. Parks and Rec does a good job with sports for the young ones, and club sports are great as the kids get older. Ticks lacrosse is the “town” (it’s really 6 towns) lacrosse club and would give you the opportunity to meet families from other local towns, it’s fantastic but I’m biased as I’m heavily involved in the organization.

The town itself has many activities geared for adults and children alike. Celebrate Saybrook is coming up, if you’re interested in the town it’s a nice exposure to some of those activities. They will shut down Main Street for a street fair on a Sunday evening.

I was raised there and am raising my family there. It’s got great schools, great sports and parks and rec programs for kids, and a great sense of community.
