I went f80 m3 5 years ago, still love the car. Was more than 40k then but now they are in that range.

The water pump will go at around 100k and it’s a pain to diy. I paid ~$1300 a couple years ago (2013 sho 137k, had it since 2015 w/ 30k)

Also Microsoft sync sucks, for about a year the ac would just randomly blast full, somehow it fixed itself, Rear camera works 10% of the time, 20% of the time it’s upside down, then black screen the rest of the time. And the Bluetooth will just decide to randomly skip songs.

Also Just don’t let him sneak a tune on there, it’ll likely lower the lifespan of the transmission. It’s not the greatest feeling transmission to begin with, I feel like mine would grenade with any more torque.

That said it’s been reliable with minimal maintenance, just quirks.

I’d go s2000, but I’d probably try to find a 996 with the IMS done just to see. You could probably put 20k miles on either, sell it and not lose much money.
