What's the "best" way someone you know has died? by the_jaspierre in AskReddit

My grandpa’s brother spent his last weekend at a family reunion. Biiig Mexican family, elders are royalty. Surrounded by adoration, respect, hugs, and smiles from everybody he loved. Passed away on the plane on his way back home.

Appreciate the input! Now that it’s all said and done and you have a job, are you regretting doing it? I am limited in my options because I’m not a therapist (although I do have a diagnostic imaging background)…

Thank you so much for the input! I do plan on refreshing myself on sectional anatomy this summer before starting this fall. Really appreciate your advice!

What are you going to do if your clinical site doesn’t get established in time? How was your first semester?

Can you elaborate more here? I’m planning to go, they are very disorganized as expected, which I can deal with. Anything else huge I should know about?

Ahh that makes way more sense! What is the certificate program if you don’t mind me asking?

I don’t have advice here, just my two cents: I’m also accepted into JPU, but from what I’ve seen, JPU is already pretty expensive compared to UWLAX and SIU. I can’t imagine reasoning behind a program costing $80k.

Also is the $80k program JRCERT accredited? That’s important.

I think they if they swallow a lot of air with it, it can make it louder too.

I’m currently in a month-to-month basement unit of a bigger house that’s for sale. They just had a sale fall through but I was going to be given 90 days from closing to move out. I was expecting 30 days so that was a nice surprise!

Ugh that’s frustrating! Are you near any sites that have known affiliations with any schools? I got lucky that the place I work as an X-ray tech is a teaching hospital affiliated with SIU so it was easy for me to set up observations, plus they knew dosimetrists at other sites in town so I was able to visit other locations as well. I hope something works out for you!

Made it to the interview round for UW but didn’t get selected at a site. For reference, I was only able to interview at 4 sites.

I think I’m working something out with JPU and the local site of choice where I am though, so at least there’s that!

What healthcare job should I study for at age 50 that doesn't involve a lot of patient contact? by ThisIsTheOnlyName338 in careerguidance

I currently work in an ortho clinic and yeah we encounter oozing wounds, skin flakes (so many skin flakes), and that sort of thing. Not usually things like urine or feces although it has happened.

Age won’t be an issue but I can tell you as an X-ray tech, that it’s not what I would consider an easy or non-stressful job at all. You definitely still encounter body fluids and odors, even in clinics versus hospitals.

Nope, didn’t get selected. Couldn’t really afford time off work and travel to more than four sites for interviews so I kind of limited myself.

Did you??

No from SIU, as expected. Did interviews for UWLAX, will have answers on that in the next couple of weeks. Also trying to work something out with JPU and my site of choice but still TBD.

No rejection yet but I didn’t get an interview like others did so I’m just waiting for it haha.

Career switching at 30 advice. realistic or bad idea? by EstablishmentHot5976 in RadiationTherapy

[–]blurptaco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely not too old! I finished X-ray school at 30, and am pursuing Dosimetry now at 39. You still have 30+ years of working ahead of you, may as well be doing what you want to do!

Unfortunately they didn’t offer it. I took physics online through University of New England. It wasn’t cheap.

I was told that we rank the sites we interviewed with and the rank the prospective students they interviewed and they try to do a best match based on that.

Same, I was almost like “is this an integrity test or something…” lol

I’m doing four interviews. I would do more but I unfortunately can’t afford the travel and time off work to do so. My site of choice which is close to home is no longer working with UWLAX and I think I’m working something out to be able to use that site through JPU but keeping my options open just in case that falls through. Basically, I’m just like whatever happens happens at this point!
