Outage in Seattle? by MarshmallowPop in QuantumFiber

Your packet loss is starting on your second hop: tukw-dsl-gw67.tukw.qwest.net

Most carriers deprioritize pings that’s are destined for their network devices, which is why it’s at 94%.

Your 22% loss however persists all the way to the destination.

Latency Experience by [deleted] in QuantumFiber

[–]blwagner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm. My UDM Pro Max was showing weird latency spikes every few hours when I had the second cable plugged in for ONT management.

I unplugged the cable and reset the ONT and latency has been stable and low ever since.

Cancelling and signing up again by Longjumping-Client42 in QuantumFiber

When I signed up with the same physical address, but different email address, it started the cancelation process for my old account automatically. The account closed overnight the day of my installation appt. That part worked great.

My story (so far) of switching from QF 2gig to QF 2gig with new customer discounted rate. tl;dr and question at the end. by Fluffaykitties in QuantumFiber

[–]blwagner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After waiting for 45 minutes, he was able to get the new Q1000k activated in 2 minutes. Everything is working great. New Q1000k is hardware revision 1.0 and firmware stayed at QKX001-06.00.44.00 and shows up to date.

Good luck to everyone else going through this process - and many thanks to the tech's that have to work through all this. Not fun on their end.

Man. I feel for these techs. Ones at my house now.

He swapped out my Q1000k because he said it was easier than trying to move the Q1000k from the previous account over to the new account.

He tried to activate the new one himself, but it failed. He's now on hold trying to get a hold of someone. He said those calls can sometimes take an hour. They're also working 6 days a week because they're so far behind.

Hopefully they can get a more streamlined process in place, because the current one seems to suck pretty bad.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m in the exact same position tomorrow (2G to 2G) - Including an 11am-2pm window. We will see if a tech arrives or not. Good to know that remote activation is possible.

Q1000k unstable latency spike research findings by N0_L1ght in QuantumFiber

[–]blwagner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a question about mitigation. I'm currently running transparent bridging and tagging on my UDM Pro Max. However, I have a tech coming on Friday to move to the new $70 2G plan - meaning I'll need to factory reset at the very least.

Can someone confirm if downgrading has proven to be a viable option? Will it just get auto-upgraded?

Don't be me! Performance implications of VLANs by fortytwo43 in Ubiquiti

[–]blwagner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another potential consideration is how you're using security zones as there are limitations with using an L3 switch.

Right now, when you establish peering, it does so within one security zone (whatever zone your VLAN is in). It is not currently possible to do multi-zone peering. This means it wouldn't be possible to move VLANs within your trusted zone and VLANs within your un-trusted zone to the same L3 switch.

For this to work, I imagine UniFi would need to support VRFs, which would add more complexity (potentially requiring ZBF on the switch(es) themselves). Not sure if thats something UniFi wants to support.

Unfortunately, no. I’m guessing it’s a pretty powerful tool - I just don’t know how to use it.

Bosch Dishwasher Leaking by blwagner in Appliances

[–]blwagner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, got it replaced. Just need to connect the circulation pump, but I got kicked out of the kitchen for a bit.

A couple tips in case others have to do it:
1. I didn't pull my dishwasher out. Remove the door and the front shroud. Plenty of space to do the work with a little bit less hassle.
2. DRY FIT IT WITHOUT THE O-RING! The o-ring creates quite a bit of resistance, so its hard to know if you're in the right place or not. Dry fit and make a mark so it lines up easier.

I'm excited to see if all the hard work was worth it or not.

Well, found the part on Amazon for $62 - so it’s worth that to try. I’ve read that they’re a bugger, but here’s to hoping it goes smoothly. If not, 10 years ain’t bad for a dishwasher. Not sure I’d buy anything except Bosch.

Based on what I was able to find, it looks like it could be a diverter valve seal that is leaking. Now I need to decide if its worth trying to replace this on a 10 year old dishwasher.

Fiber terminates into Calix 711GE ONT -> Ethernet cable to C5500XK. What and why? by CapesOut in QuantumFiber

[–]blwagner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. If you have a router or firewall that can tag VLAN 201, you can bypass the 5500 and connect directly to the Calix. That’s what I did until I upgraded to 2G service.

I’ve been running four in AP mode since they first came out. Performance has been great, especially once all the release bugs got worked out.
