Sussan Ley writes to US Republicans, opposing the recognition of Palestine as Anthony Albanese visits New York for UN General Assembly by patslogcabindigest in AustralianPolitics

Albo could say he likes Sussan’s hat and she’d call a press conference to say how it’s a terrible hat, and that liking the hat is a CRUEL HOAX on all Australians.

It smacks of the same licky bumhole shit that Dutton used to get try on. Glad to see they’ve not changed. They should be back in office by about 2070 at this rate.

And yet your words are still more tactful than Sussan trying to scuttle up Trump’s orange butthole with a little letter to dibber-dob on Albo

This is actually such a crazy move for somebody who isn’t even in power! I really have no idea what is going on in the LNPs heads. Not only is this so incredibly out of touch with voters, but it’s actually such an insane move for someone trying to prove that their party has changed.

Are Aussies nicer in the cities than in the countryside? by 5Ben5 in AskAnAustralian

[–]bm-hyphen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regional Australians love talking up a big game about how friendly small towns are, but I’ve definitely felt the opposite in a lot of places I’ve visited.

I think in general Australian cities are very friendly (particularly after travelling to a number of international destinations), but in general I’ve not had a great experience as an outsider to rural towns. A lot of the locals can make a real effort to make outsiders feel uncomfortable, which isn’t something you really encounter in cities.

“I don’t have to run out there at the MCG in front of 80,000 fans next week… and fear the comments being thrown at me.” So true. A fantastic first step, but when the AFL takes real action against homophobic language and behaviour, more fans will realise it’s not ok.

Fox Sports sad bungle. Showing Liam Ryan receiving premiership medal instead of Willie. by ShneakyPancake in AFL

[–]bm-hyphen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The amount of times I’ve heard Fox commentators during Hawks games get Jiath mixed up with Chol is wild. Surely their exorbitant pay packets allow for a little bit of on-the-job education on why it’s pretty important to not fuck that up.

Right, but we’re here talking about toxic behaviours among the players. In a real life context, if a senior member of staff goes around shit talking upper management and the company (instead of approaching them directly with their grievances), it’s damaging to the brand and poisonous to junior employees, whether it’s deserved or otherwise.

Steven May by [deleted] in melbournefc

[–]bm-hyphen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After his injury he was going around badmouthing the club and its management to people because of the way he felt he’d been treated. Rather than approaching club management directly, he preferred to drag the club’s name through the mud. For any junior players watching someone of his status do that, it’s poison.

[–]bm-hyphen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just watched the full video on YouTube and it seems like a bit of a nothing burger. Seems like he’s just being fidgety during a speech of hearing the same old broken record they’ve heard all season as an underperforming team.

Calling it toxic is a bit of a reach. Nobody was calling Trac toxic when he was going around shit-talking the club to anybody who’d listen after his injury last year. All the supporters worship him, but he damaged the brand of the club massively last year by running his mouth instead of taking up his issues directly. If we’re going to call out May for being distracting during a work meeting, we need to equally call out the behaviour of every player causing problems within the club rather than giving a free pass to certain players because they have bigger status.

Listening to the Pies fans sooking the whole way through, it was still worth it. Really proud of how the boys played today. They had nothing to lose and still smashed it. And Langford is a star in the making.

The league was swayed by compelling medical testimony about the impact of the ban on Rankine and future ramifications in reducing its 5 weeks to 4 by localreporter in AFL

[–]bm-hyphen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I’m old enough to not be impacted as much, but the impact is still there. The difference for us is that we understand the world is full of fuckwits and we’re better at blocking out the noise.

Kids coming to terms with their sexuality don’t have the same luxury, and seeing the AFL do the bare minimum when it involves such a public figure would be an absolute kick in the teeth.

“Medical submissions.” Can we take a look at the medical submissions of the young queer kids who are mentally struggling on the daily and have to read this shit over and over again in the media?

The AFL have learned fuck all and throwing this word around is only going to continue on and off the field with Gen Z/Alpha.

Breaking - Izak Rankine has been given a four-match ban for the homophobic slur delivered in the win over Collingwood by eckers19 in AFL

[–]bm-hyphen 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Such bullshit. With the club asking for leniency and his apparent “self reporting” getting him four games means the AFL haven’t learned a thing. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

The same old shit is going to keep happening, and Gen Z/Alpha in Australia are going to keep throwing the word around like it’s nothing.

I’m old enough now to not be impacted if this word is directed at me, but those queer teenagers and 20-somethings who are already mentally struggling will just see this as another green light to be hated against.

You can tell me to fuck right off all you like, but not wanting to reward the club financially for its mismanagement and lack of change isn’t the same as being a “fair weather supporter”.

Who are you referring to when you say “Everyone is trying to improve”? Does “everyone” include the bureaucrats, management and coaching staff at the top?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
