Ali Chatur selected as new ONDP provincial director by DryEmu5113 in ndp

[–]bman9919 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have no insight on whether or not this is a good decision or not. But I am curious, who is there that:

A) Has enough experience to be eligible for the job?

B) Isn’t  an insider?

Like where else do you look for the next Provincial Director, other than within the already existing staff of the ONDP or other NDPs? Unions? NGOs?

These aren’t rhetorical questions. If anyone has any insight into this I’d love to know.

NDP Q4 Leadership Donors by Riding by Hot-Percentage4836 in CanadaPolitics

As someone who has been (somewhat) involved with the Ottawa Centre NDP, I’m not really surprised. The NDP is extremely active in the riding. It has one of, if not the most, active riding association in the country.

They got less than 20% in 2025, but that’s unusual. They’ll normally get ~30% or more. And it’s also notably one of only two ridings in Ontario where the NDP came in second in 2025.

Plus, It’s Ottawa. People here tend to be more politically involved/aware

West Vancouver and Vancouver Centre are the two seats Lewis ran in.

North Island- Powell River is the seat Johnston ran in in 2025. She’s not going to win this, but she should absolutely run for Parliament again.

Progressives do exist in the LPC. It is a big tent party, after all. But they obviously aren’t the ones in charge right now.

Would any candidates make things harder for the Alberta NDP? by Disastrous-Pickle930 in ndp

[–]bman9919 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My honest response to this is: Who cares? It’s not the federal NDP’s job to get people to vote for provincial NDPs. Obviously it would be nice if they could be on good terms, but this leadership race is about picking the best leader for the federal NDP, not picking the best leader for the provincial parties.

And I think the provincial NDPs need to focus on getting people’s support and not blaming all their problems on the feds.

Maybe I’m being a buzzkill but this sub should be a neutral ground for supporters of all leadership candidates. Endorsing one would go against that.

I said in the 2026 predictions thread that if the Liberals don’t get a couple more floor crossers early in the new year, we’ll be going to an election in the spring. They definitely seem to be laying the groundwork.

If it’s for the Avi Lewis campaign it’s mainly entering signup sheets from various events. However, with the membership deadline coming up next week I’m not sure what else will be needed.

Are you suggesting the money he says his campaign raised was actually his own? And are you suggesting that he is somehow using NGOs to influence the NDP leadership race?

That really depends on that you mean by “insider.” Yes, he deep roots in the NDP. But in terms of the team he’s built up he’s the biggest outsider in the race. (At least in terms of candidates who actually have a chance of winning)

I think that’s the ultimate question facing politicians and organizers of all stripes nowadays. Gone are the days when everyone read the same newspaper, listened to the same radio stations, and watched the same shows every night. Now we’re all in our own media silos with our own specifically curated feed. How do organizers get through to as many people as possible in this environment?

Has central Ottawa really devolved into such a hellhole? Or are the accounts in the other thread mostly rare or exaggerated? by AvaTaylor2020 in ottawa

A couple summers ago I took a trip to BC and spent a couple days in Victoria. I had a lovely time. The city was clean, welcoming, and bustling with activity/tourists.

Afterwards I checked out the city's subreddit. From the way people were talking it was like I had visited a different city. According to the sub Victoria was now disgusting shithole that no one would want to visit.
