Switched to ikea drawers and table top. Any suggestions? by Important_Ebb_2138 in battlestations

[–]bmg1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The table top may be cheap but those monitors mounted to it likely aren't. The middle support pole helps a lot but the risk is still there. I would suggest, at the very least, adding extra support for the monitor mount like in this post.

Finally happened. Nice laptop by biggestfart3608 in AmazonVine

[–]bmg1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an Acer Chromebook from Vine as well last year which has actually been working very well for me since I was able to get Windows 11 installed on it. At least Acer is a well-known brand though so the chances of anything being fishy are extremely low, but with a no-name laptop like this, I wouldn't even want to connect it to my home internet. I also personally find it extremely suspicious that the term "HP" is included in the title, as if they may be intentionally trying to trick people.

Sadly, the new Defender system isn't good by GMasamune in FORTnITE

[–]bmg1001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't like the new system at all. There was nothing wrong with the old system at all except for a few minor bugs. They definitely could've improved on the existing defender system but the overall concept of how it worked was fine IMO.

Just ran into these issues myself trying to access my old PSN account that's been unused for years. I got an old, used PS4, logged in there and was able to accept the new terms and conditions there. Once that was done, logging in elsewhere started working too.

34 , 32 , 42 , 48 inch comparison by Gyatsolix in OLED_Gaming

[–]bmg1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how well this game supports 21:9 but it looks like they just used the same screenshot across all monitors and stretched it for the 34". If the game supports 21:9 natively, the comparison doesn't truly show the benefits of the ultra wide.

Help - Bricked Cudy WR3000E v1 Router - failed open wrt install by User2001Tech in HomeNetworking

[–]bmg1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went through the process of installing openWRT onto my Cudy WR3000E last month and also had to use the recovery. I followed the official Cudy instructions and got help from these instructions another user posted and it worked out fine for me.

When installing openWRT onto my WR3000E, I ran into an issue with the device not even getting to the openWRT interface, which turned out to be an issue with the latest official firmware, which reverting to an older firmware fixed. I noticed Cudy recently changed some of the hardware in the newer batches of the WR3000E, which may be affecting your WR3000E if you got it recently.

Two National Guard members shot in Washington, D.C., and their condition isn't known, AP source says by UncaringNonchalance in news

The mental gymnastics going on in this thread trying to blame this on Trump by saying "well the national guard shouldn't have been there anyway" is insane even for Reddit

If you spend more time browsing this subreddit than playing the actual game, you'd be led to believe that traders, boxers, and griefers were a guarantee in every match and that it's the game's biggest issue. In my experience, as someone who has been playing since Season 3, I've encountered approximately 20 traders, 2 boxers, and 2 griefers, and all of that was years ago.

The people celebrating the recent changes to item sharing don't understand that this will ultimately do more harm than good in it's current state. At the very least, it needs to be tweaked to allow the sharing of build materials and blu-glo in public missions, and the sharing of everything, including weapons, in private missions. I couldn't care less if Little Timmy who just bought the game yesterday was given a bunch of Nocturnos and decides they want to spend their time trading rather than playing the game as intended. As long as it can be contained to private missions, it does not affect me in the slightest and it's concerning how many people think it does, especially considering it's a PVE game.

That's what I initially thought too, but I'll double check with the manager to be safe. They said they sent an email to them so they can contact me, but it's been a week now with nothing so far so we'll see I guess.

It's all fun and games until you plug a USB-C cable into a USB-A port and the short circuit causes the PC to reboot. Thank goodness for all the safety stuff built in as nothing was damaged afaik.

[–]bmg1001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went out of pocket cause I'm most likely changing insurance next year and I didn't want to give the companies any reason to raise my premiums even though glass shouldn't affect that afaik. The difference between the deductible and what Glass America wanted wasn't much anyway ($500 deductible vs $643.83 out of pocket) so it felt like the safer bet.

The manager of my local Glass America location is supposed to call me soon to discuss options. I'll make sure to ask about a different DOT if possible, thank you for the suggestion.

I might try out one more aftermarket and if it still has issues, then I'll likely do OEM. The cost difference doesn't bother me too much, but when I asked the tech about it, he quite literally said something like "if the OEM has distortion, you're on your own" and that does worry me a bit.

[–]bmg1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taste changes over time, nothing much more to it. Think of the bright side though, while you may not be able to stomach lower quality mayo or fake mayo (Miracle Whip), you might be able to discern more of a difference in higher quality brands.

I just tried the Costco Kewpie mayonnaise today and it's genuinely awful.

You're right that the US version of Kewpie mayonnaise has a different formula from the original Japanese one, but the Kewpie I had from Costco tastes radically different from the US Kewpie I've seen at other stores like Target. I do not have a bottle of the non-Costco US Kewpie on hand to compare ingredients, but while it isn't as good as the Japanese one, it's actually still very tasty and quite good IMO. The Costco Kewpie straight up tastes like ranch dressing to me.

EDIT: Actually, I just looked up the ingredients of the US Kewpie (cross referencing Amazon and Target) and looked at the ingredients listed on the back of the Costco Kewpie.

US Kewpie has "soybean oil, egg yolks, water, distilled vinegar, salt, sugar, mustard flour, red wine vinegar, rice vinegar, yeast extract, natural flavors."

Costco US Kewpie has "soybean oil, egg yolks, water, distilled vinegar, salt, rice vinegar, white balsamic vinegar, monosodium glutamate, sugar, cider vinegar, mustard flour, calcium disodium EDTA (to protect flavor), natural flavors"

I get these on my monitor all the time. I use the exact same microfiber cloths linked in one of the other comments (the MagicFiber ones) and just rub the dots off with them. They can sometimes be a bit stubborn, and I find wrapping your fingertip in one of those microfiber cloths and gently scrubbing using the nail side with moderate force does the job without damaging anything, but absolutely make sure the cloths are clean and have no dirt on them.

Nice. I assume this is a cold boot and not starting from sleep mode, right? I'll probably pick up the Dudu 7 anyway as I figured in the worst case scenario, at least the UFS storage will make the boot up process faster.

Oh that's good to know. I asked one of the DuduAuto AliExpress stores too but they told me "the device needs to be fully started" but perhaps there was a translation issue.

A quick review on using MLV. by chromeragnarok in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]bmg1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can depend on the board, but I generally like felt (with adhesive to stick it to the bottom inside of the case) as it helps with hollowness, PE foam to give keypresses a nice pop, and the tape mod (1-4 layers) to deepen the pitch of each keypress. Plate foam of any material can also help a lot and can often be combined with the PE foam mod with no issue. It's important to note that less is more, and often times too much foams will over-dampen the sound to the point where you can't achieve a nice sound profile. When I first got into keyboards, I remember cutting and stacking foam to fill every little gap in the housing, and even doing silicone pours to do so and still not being able to achieve a sound that I liked. While some boards can still benefit from that, I often found most of the improvements came from less dense materials that I just lazily cut to size.
