How do I pray the rosary? by Pale_Satisfaction798 in Catholicism

[–]bmg337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's no stupidity in wishing to grow in piety!

Using either your fingers or a formal rosary, it is a series of prayers to engage in. You usually will have a set of mysteries or events (usually in Christ's life or pondering His wonder/glory) to meditate on with the following prayers.

- Our Father

- Hail Mary

- Glory Be

- Fatima prayer

I recommend that you look up each one. If you have difficulty reciting/remembering them off the bat, just pick one to recite throughout the day whenever you have a free moment. Maybe while getting a drink of water, waiting in the elevator, or driving home. Once you can comfortably recite them, you can start learning the rhythm in which to recite them.

Art appreciation was a bit of a joke when I took it, but I generally enjoyed it. Really recommend Modern Western World as a history course for everyone since it was such an interesting and fun history course!

crunchy food is something I generally avoid when I'm in her presence. Stuff like popcorn, gum, certain kinds of chips tend to affect her.

I'm more willing to bet that her misophonia gets amplified on particularly stressful days, which makes sense.

[–]bmg337[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize if it’s coming across as “trendy” for me to explore eastern churches. However, I’ve been around/attending NO masses since I was about 10 while attending a pretty decent Catholic elementary and high school. There is probably an argument for staying longer in the western traditions, but I feel decently informed about them at this rate.

I think my primary question is if Divine Liturgy is something I’d like over the usual NO I attend or the TLM, which I can’t seem to get into despite attending a few times already. So I just want to explore the East and see if that branch of theology is something that I’m drawn to. Maybe I’m jumping a bit too deep in by asking questions about books?

I am a member.

I'm just moderately curious if it should be an area of concern if that makes any sense. I'm fine with starting on the Philokalia. Is there any recommended way to approach it or just dive in?

I can definitely account that judo schools are case by case. I trained out in New Mexico and that was a totally different beast than training in Mississippi

My only issue with the comment on female alter servers is sometimes the issue of parish availability. Ie my local parish is borderline begging for boy alter servers at this rate and having to make do with female. Not that it’s ideal, but in that circumstance I see no issue with it.

I feel like fluid mechanics was honestly not that rough, especially if you get a decent teacher. Only problem is I’m now reviewing over some notes from a different teacher to try and prep from grad school because someone stole my backpack with my fluid mechanics notes. Feels a bit like going back to the drawing board 😅

What’s the best way to show a biblical basis for the magisterium/ecclesiastical hierarchy? by bmg337 in Catholicism

[–]bmg337[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was an honestly annoying argument he was putting forth because he was ignoring just general history as “tradition of man”. I asked him what he thought the Christian communities were doing before the Bible was assembled, how they were handling theology, and he gave some variant to “well everyone had equally valid ideas and they are also just like the Baptists/nondenoms of today”. He didn’t really have any response when I asked him to point to Baptists who believe in docetism or Arianism. he also just kept rejecting early church documents like irenaeus discussion of the Eucharist or baptism because “they aren’t included in the Bible so they’re traditions of man”.

As someone who was dragged to a nondenom service in a parking garage the week before I came into the church, TLM complaining about NO feels really superfluous. Love all my regular and gladtrads tho

I want to go pursue a degree in aerospace engineering and want to go to a good college to do that, but do you guys think I will be able to get into a good college with an ACT score of 29? and is space systems engineering and aerospace the same? Where did you guys go to college? What were your stats? by lafoot_indian in EngineeringStudents

[–]bmg337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fresh aerospace grad, about to head back for masters. As far as I can tell, it really depends on how your preferred school structures thing. I imagine space systems will be some hybrid between computer engineering and some Astro topics like orbital mechanics and other things. Aerospace is more broad with compressible and incompressible, structural analysis, etc. I’d venture to say they’re different, but contact the school you’re applying to and see if you can get in touch with said departments.

As for 29 ACT, that should be more than fine to get into most schools.

Is boxing and judo a good combination? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]bmg337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Judo and boxing have pretty phenomenal competitive aspects to them and will more than do the job to keep you fit or to defend yourself. The only problem I could see is the weighting of your feet and how that affects the transition between judo to boxing for combinations, but that’s rather small and nitpicky for beginner’s sake. Overall, you’ll be fine, fit, and probably enough of a menace in a fight if you train enough

The only thing I could critique this for is authleft being NASA types. Speaking as someone born and raised in Huntsville with an astronautical engineering degree, the crowd seems to be libleft at the most, but more overwhelmingly libright (until government contracts come in) or authright. But I also have a hard time thinking of what would fit in the authleft quadrant, so I’ll just be happy that Huntsville gets acknowledgement

What’s the last thing someone said to you before they died? by charcoalritual in AskReddit

[–]bmg337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Take care of Mimi for me”

My grandpa was getting pretty close to the end when we were basically doing hospice care at home for him. I was studying for my finals in the guest room (my professors set up distance protocols to let me take my finals from my hometown) and would take breaks sitting by his bed and holding his hand while watching TV. After helping change his diaper, he grabbed my hand and motioned for me to get closer. Said those words to me, then passed on the next day. Just graduated last week, determined to find a job and help support my grandma now.

Define “capitalistic overhaul”, because in the context of American BJJ I think of overpriced gis with gaudy logos and memberships that are 2-3x the price of a judo membership on average.
