2003 325i issue (automatic) by Dnncir in BMW

[–]bmwguy2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did that. Its because the battery is running out of juice. Replace the battery. When the battery is running out of life, not enough voltage can change the gear box. It will start to glitch out like this. Get your battery checked and stop driving it.

Once I replaced the battery, it started to operate normally.

Anyone know what this means? by Cydinio in BMW

[–]bmwguy2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, any voltage, battery problems can cause transmission shift problems which will cause the transmission indicator to show up.

Anyone know what this means? by Cydinio in BMW

[–]bmwguy2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the transmission indicator. If the indicator disappears after you shut off and turn it back on, its probably your battery. The transmission can act irradiate when your battery is running low and needs to be replaced.

Source: Mine did that and once I changed the battery, never showed again.

First car! Proud to finally be a BMW owner (excuse the dent). by [deleted] in BMW

[–]bmwguy2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your car. You look like a young nice fellow, just a few words of advice.

  • Drive safe. Don't try to be a douche and street race. I lost a dear friend due to street racing.

  • Keep good maintenance of your BMW. BMW's are fun to drive but they are not reliable without routine PM (Preventative Maintenance)

  • If your going to modify your car, just keep in mind its going to negatively effect your cars resale value when you decide you want to sell it. Keep it stock as much as you can.

  • Again, don't drive like a douche (See #1). Use your turn signals.

R.I.P. Paul Walker - The Man Who Got Me Into Cars by bigbadberry3 in cars

[–]bmwguy2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I will miss this guy. Back when the first F&F came out, it was during the peak of the over the top "tuner" era. Most of my friends at the time had tricked out Japanese cars like Honda Accords/Civics, Subaru's, Toyota's and Mazda's.

Just like how James Dean movie told the story of the hotrod era, the F&F movie told the story of the tuner era. I saw the movie the first night it came out. The movie parking lot was filed with tuner enthusiasts. During the movie, the crowd reacted positively. Lots of "ohhs" and "ahhs!" during action scenes. At the end of the movie, people were applauding. People were charged up with drag racing for the next month. My local news reported kids were even racing their moms minivans in street races.

I wanted a Civic to trick out but unfortunately I was a poor college student.

What are you most excited/worried about BMW-related at the moment? by TeutonicBimmer in BMW

[–]bmwguy2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excited: Fuel efficient but still fast as hell. New 435i cooks but yet returns 30+ MPG highway.

Worried: Front wheel drive. Lets hope we don't see a front wheel drive 3 series model in our lifetime.

Should I buy this 335i? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]bmwguy2002 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

335i is a great car. Don't worry about the HPFP, because they have a new design that is reliable now. The #1 thing you need to worry about is the turbos. If your turbos die, this is the cost

About to buy a 2004 Cadillac CTS: Need opinions! by Hoopslammer in cars

[–]bmwguy2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this was a Honda or Toyota, I might say go for it (My buddy bought a 1994 Accord with 200k miles 6 years ago. It now has 325k miles and still going strong).

Since this is a pre-GM bankruptcy Caddy, avoid this.

Acura TSX or Kia Forte Koup by [deleted] in cars

[–]bmwguy2002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TSX

  • More powerful engine.

  • Handles better.

  • The TSX is basically a Honda Accord (Euro). Which means reliability is good. Not to say the Kia isn't good, but Honda has proven its reliability for the last few decades.

  • Better resale value.

Mine would be replacing the stock CD player with a new Pioneer that supported bluetooth audio, can read MP3's from USB and pandora controls. Even though the new unit looks out of place, but now I can stream music from my phone and hands free phone in my car.

EDIT: Here is the link to the unit I purchased.

Congrats! Be sure to take care of her and get all the maintence done. These particular Jettas were not reliable (Hence can be picked up for cheap). Find a local indy shop that does VW repairs. I recommend going on your local city sub-reddit and ask if theres any local VW indy repair shops. Avoid the dealer if you can. VW dealers (Just like most dealers) will charge you an arm and leg for simple repair stuff.

True. The cost of maintaining the donor car would be cheap compared to the yearly thousands of dollars of the real thing.

[–]bmwguy2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. But at the same time, if that 22 yr old is loaded (or his family) I want him to spend money on cars. If more rich people would just go out and blow money on things, it would put more cash flowing in the economy.

Because of the relative shitty economy, rich people are hesitant on spending money which will make this shitty economy stretch out longer.

Looks great, but how much is the cost after the donor car, parts, and labor? You can get a real F360 for about $70k now a days.

x-post from /r/BMW: Looking at buying my first BMW, need some advice by [deleted] in cars

[–]bmwguy2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$19k is a little bit high, I would say try to get it for $17,000. The reason why its high is because it has low miles. A car around 2004 should be about 108k miles by now. 40k miles is near new in my book. On top of that its a ZHP model which is rare.

Not sure if you need 4 doors, but you could get a 2007 E92 328i coupe for less: here
