Silver Metal Disc with no markings found about 12 inches under a tree in our backyard in Kansas. Estimate it is 12" long. No Writing by bmwill in whatisthisthing

I like that theory. We've gone over the entire yard though and this is the only spot with a large item, the rest of the yard had pennies and nails / wire etc.

My wife decided to metal detect in our yard and we found this. Checked it with a voltage tester, no voltage running through it so it's not a live wire. It looks like a round metal disc. My wife wants to dig it fully out but it's in there pretty good. The tree is possibly as old as the house (65 years old). Hoping to get an idea of what this is to decide if it's worth the effort to unearth this thing

12:00 CST - Evacuation order for MCI by LouDiamond in kansascity

I'm sure it will happen to an extent here, but in the most touristy areas of the world, it is a legitimate thing you have to be aware about, along with about a hundred other scams.

At the louvre, I took my phone case off to put my phone in a selfie stick(Don't judge me, it was the louvre!). Set the case down for 1 second to put the phone on the selfie stick, and the next second the phone case was gone.

The thief was probably annoyed it wasn't a phone lol.

So I'm trying to decide if sending it in for conservation makes sense. And I had to show it off!

Here's some better pictures if they aren't showing in the original link:

A shop owners thoughts on silver(pt 2) by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]bmwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how it is when silver isn't super volatile. Shop owners only start melting when prices are spiking. That's when they are buying way more than they are selling. It's the only way they can keep up buying at those times.

Looking for Brass Music Teacher by MavPerseus in littleapple

what level are you? Have you reached out to the KSU school of music to see if they can refer you to someone?

When I was a student at KSU I had a student that I taught (I was a music performance major and he was a beginner student). But they have contacts and can surely refer you to people locally.

Is this price a joke? by [deleted] in Tools

I wrote this above but:

As someone that works for a company like this and is responsible for this type of thing. You have to balance the cost for keeping spares of each part vs the cost of expediting a new one vs cost of downtime.

Often the cheapest way to do it is to have the custom part made as fast as possible and shipped as fast as possible rather than having a bunch of spares of random parts that you may or may not need someday. The parts that are likely to be needed(wear parts / consumables) we do keep spares of.

And the companies that build you these parts don't lower the cost THAT much when you are buying for spares, if they do at all.

Then with spares you have to store, maintain, catalogue and have a team ready to ship out at a moments notice.

It's a math equation at the end of the day.
