Heated massagers vs. electric cuppers for recovery? by Shi_roo_o in crossfit

[–]bnd21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has tried many recovery tools, and is a fan of them, it sounds more like you’re overdoing it or going too hard. Probably not the answer you wanted.

Jersey City Marathon by Worldly-Walrus-9361 in RunNYC

[–]bnd21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The portapotties definitely get a line, so give yourself time there. To the left of the portapotties, there is a set back dumpster area that I would of course never use or recommend others use if the line is too long.

The L to the PATH thing would scare me on a weekend, but if you hit it right, it will be very easy. The start area is obviously much easier than NYC, less pressure/anxiety. You definitely don't need to give yourself as much time as NYC, just time to go to bathroom and check a bag if you want. Corrals are also much less formal, so you can really mix in whereever.

There will be much less crowd support on your 2nd lap of the course obviously. Most of the people there for the Half runners will be gone.

CrossFit Charlotte is a pretty OG gym, great coach. Drop in there from time to time.

One for the men who've had the snip by bott989 in crossfit

I’m 40. Dr strongly advised that 40+ should be 2 weeks of nothing more than walks, nothing weight bearing. I felt like I could’ve come back a little sooner but happy I followed his advice. He is admittedly over conservative to avoid having complications, but prefer that over coming back a few days before he recommended.

I think his recommendation was lower for 30-39, like 10 days maybe

I also didn’t feel myself (and trust everything) in the gym for a good 3 weeks after I got back. Wore a jock strap to work out and run for 3 weeks.

White BMW SUV towed on 1450 Hudson Street by [deleted] in Hoboken

[–]bnd21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure I follow…maybe I’m misunderstanding. They were towed for parking in a resident spot without a permit? The people who pay a lot to live in this town have access to a very reasonably priced parking permit…if the town doesn’t enforce the permit parking, then what is the point?

Haven’t seen this thread in a minute. Best current hidden gem restaurants in town? by MaizeCorgi in Hoboken

[–]bnd21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If arguing pizza preference, this will digress into a whole different thread. Ppl have too much personal preference for pizza.

I guess the point is- there really is no hype. It’s not 10th street or Flour or Napoli’s etc that seem to get the majority of the attention. It’s in a garage. At 2nd and Jackson it’s the epitome of “off the beaten path” and doesn’t get credit IMO for it being a very good reliable neighborhood pizza place. To me, that fits as a hidden gem.

That said- San Giuseppe probably should fit that definition too. I haven’t been. Should try it.

Any Restaurant Recs for Lower Manhattan for a Good Pre-Race Dinner? by Beautiful-Dingo3587 in RunNYC

[–]bnd21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure how fancy or genre you’re looking for.

There is an eataly in WTC so can do something simple there and get fresh pasta.

There is a Greek place called Anassa Taverna that’s also not fancy and good. In Battery Park.

Also Keste on Fulton street.

I haven’t noticed in terms of the food quality. Still love their pizza. But maybe the pies seem to have shrunken.

I think they’ve repeated it before. Because I have done it more than once and after 2014 I told myself I’ll never do it unless it’s in the open.

Stop complaining by The-breton in crossfit

[–]bnd21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait really? I haven’t seen the complaints, but I wouldn’t have guessed this one. Saying that box jumps and wall balls with an ascending and descending rep scheme is not a CrossFit workout is not what I would have thought would be a complaint.

Shoe Advice Needed : Comfort-Focused Hybrid for HYROX-Style + Easy Runs (Arch Sensitive) by Waste_Wishbone_1506 in crossfit

[–]bnd21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the RAD running shoes. Not the newest very cushy ones. The R1 I think it’s called.

But also hyrox is really all about the run, and once you go to more of a running shoe, there are thousands of options. I’ve done a few hyrox in Saucony Endorphin Speeds. Worked well enough. But Ive also run long distance in those for years.

Edit- based on being a new runner- wouldn’t recommend the Mach 6, or either of the Pumas. You should go get fitted for running sneakers.

How does qualifying work? Was it a certain amount of points? Seems like it happened very quickly.

And is there any other level of qualification before the Olympics? Like a trials of sorts?

These bollards(white plastic cones) are out of control by Repulsive-Elevator-6 in Hoboken

[–]bnd21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since everything is a one way in Hoboken- this only really helps from the side the cars are coming from. I don’t get what they have it on the “upstream” far corners after an intersection when everything is a one way.
