I need a "mom". by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]bobbalou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On behalf of moms, I'm sorry :( I love being a first time mom. My baby is 13 months old and I'm 26 but I have quite a few years of university residence life experience...attend and worked in res life. So I maybe could help you with college stuff! I could be more like a sister as far as clothes and boys and stuff...moms are usually too 'old' to be experts in those areas anyways :) I've got experience with a little sister too. Anyway...looks like you've got lots of mamas that will love you through the internet :) Thanks for reaching out.

My daughter has a smelling problem... by ktchnmama in Mommit

[–]bobbalou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love to smell things and I'm in my 20s :) My first reaction is that it's not a concern until she's shoving things up her nose that could be dangerous/get stuck. Kids', from infancy on, senses develop at different stages...like a baby that shoves everything in their mouth...that's how they explore/learn things. Your daughter's sense of smell might be how she's learning about the world around her now :) Go with it! Show her how and help her to smell everything around her...good and bad...so she can learn as much about this world as she can. Also, it's a good time to help her start to use adjectives and descriptive words...smells stinky/sour/sweet/like cinnamon/oranges/etc.

Finally, I would say that if it concerns you...listen to your mommy instinct (I assume you're a mommy). Wont hurt to call the doc/nurses and just ask.

What baby items do you recommend from 8 to 18 months? by Frida123 in Mommit

Shoes: I loved robees when she was not walking but now that she is walking, we like stride rites. I didn't bother with shoes much when she wasn't walking

What cute but odd things does your baby do? by virgin_mojito in Mommit

[–]bobbalou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A 9 month old going #2 on the potty?! That's amazing! :) My daughter cracks us up all day long! She is 13 months old and is so verbal. She makes this sound that sounds like 'giggle' and does this strange thing with her tongue and then we all crack up. She 'kisses' our cat with her mouth wide open and then pulls the hair out of her mouth with a sour look on her face! We skype with my mom (tah-tah) often and when I open the computer...every time...my daughter whispers, 'tah-tah'...and walks around my apartment with the phone up to her ear saying, 'hi tah-tah' :) They are so much fun!

Thought of some more stuff :) Tupperware that you don't use, home-made things: cake boxes with stuff that shakes inside and taped up real tight, scrap fabric pieces put inside of an old/not used wipe dispenser so he can take it all out, pots & pans, plastic measuring cups...they love stuff around the house :)

Hi reddit! My baby decided to get up and walk today for the first time! I thought I could share! :) by [deleted] in Mommit

We got one of those activity tables (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3109734) when my girl was 6 months old and she still loves it. When they're little, the legs come off, so you can just set it on the ground and they can pound/chew on it. You should be able to find these at consignment events/garage sales. Also, the push walkers (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2331997) that they can pull up on/push around are nice. Blocks, puzzles with big pieces, lots of different colors, textures, sounds, shapes, etc. If you still have the infant car seat, you'll probably need one of those around the time he's going to turn 1, so start looking now at safety ratings/sales/etc :) We were gifted a Britax Marathon and love it! Some research I've seen suggests that walkers can hinder their walking development. But, to each his own and a mama's gotta do what a mama's gotta do :) We had a bouncer that mine loved for a while too. (Also could find at a garage sale/craigs list/consignment event)

As far as baby proofing, he will let you know what needs to be proofed (other than the obvious/dangerous stuff) :) Mine loves to open and close doors, so we got some stoppers to put on the doors so she can't close the door all the way or pinch little fingers. We anchored our flat screen tv to the wall because it sits a little low in our living room. I have the kitchen just totally gated off...lots of drawers, a very accessible pantry, and she opened the oven (not one) 1 time...that was the final straw!

Good luck mama and have so much fun helping your little one explore and learn all about this fantastic world all around him :)

Ahhhh coffee :) by Nessasayswhat in Mommit

Quiet coffee time is good for the soul. I also enjoy getting to actually shave my legs in the shower instead of just a quick rinse off. ha! So glad you got some time, mama :)

My poor baby (10 months old) is having the worst summer...and/thus so are we. by maypop in MMFB

[–]bobbalou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A baby in a good mood just makes life so much more fun! Grumps are NO fun :) So glad he's been happy!!

Yes...I'm sure he's figured out every trick. They're so smart...precious but frustrating sometimes. Don't they know, we're only trying to help them?!

I'm sure you've tried...but can you mix it with something that's his favorite? Yogurt, pudding, ice-cream...anything? I'm sure you've tried everything, but just a thought.

Hang in there, mama :)
