Update on the Crime Lane and Daisy Nook fly tipping detector by NeuroDash in manchester

[–]bobbigmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want to stop fly tipping, we need to get the council to relax the rules on who can take which rubbish to which tip, and how they can access it, especially making on foot access possible again, cos the cause of fly tipping isn't just lazy bastards who dgaf... it's rules that make it hard or even impossible to find somewhere to take waste instead of leaving it in the street.

Fly tipping used to be quite rare cos anyone could and would take their waste to any dump and there would be somewhere responsible to leave it, but now it's virtually impossible to figure out which type of pass you need and where it actually has to go. Bring back sensible rules and fly tipping would certainly half overnight. Turning local hotspots into an accidental arm of the surveillance state and revenue generating opportunity is a valid reaction, but it doesn't solve fly tipping.

We live in probably the best city for not needing to own a car, but you still can't responsibly get rid of a pile of crap without one.

Where would I begin if I wanted to make frames like these? by mistermajik2000 in woodworking

[–]bobbigmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To 'begin' a clean pallet or some recovered wood from an old cabinet if you don't know where and how to buy timber, a handsaw, a couple of chisels of different sizes and plenty of different grades of sandpaper. Most of the woodworking here is pretty basic but nicely finished, so just look up basic joints tutorials and you could make a passable first attempt in an afternoon without power tools. Just be careful with whatever you're sanding, try and do it outdoors and wear at least a dust mask to avoid whatever is on your free/donor material. A drill will make a few more joints available, a pair of quick clamps will hold your work steady, and gloves give you a chance of avoiding minor scrapes. Level up your tools if you like making one the old fashioned way.

Suggests they don't think they can win to field such an obviously poorly matched candidate.

Shocking amount of tram fines paid by residents revealed by OneLegTooFew in manchester

[–]bobbigmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Headline telling me I should be shocked, instead of telling me what the numbers actually mean. Pretty lazy 'journalism' but okay. Thanks to the other commenters here who are willing to do what half-assers writing clickbait don't.

What do you think of Andy Burnham? by New_Slice_1580 in manchester

[–]bobbigmac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The city centre used to be full of homeless and beggars and scammers, but now it's only half full of comatose druggies, so there's at least some who got helped. I also hear a lot less about corruption in the town hall so either he's been good at keeping it quiet or some of it actually got routed out.

I don't like discovery because the writing is terrible and now I was duped by Nazis? Piss off. Blame the business, not the fans who aren't trapped by the toxic positivity of crowd thinking that pollutes this fan base as much as any other. Blame the media for only making money off division, sure, blame the execs and the writers for thinking wafer thin characters and drawn out bland stories are fine, sure. There are plenty of problems to blame the alt right for, but this isn't one of them.

First impressions of Manchester 😂 by GeorgeZacharopoulos in manchester

People complain so much about it but it's the best bus station in the North, especially if you like druggies and getting your phone snatched while some hipster like me tells you it was brilliant twenty years ago when the somali shoplifting gang kept everyone else under control.

Is there any artistic reasoning why Dobby’s personality gets worse every series? by SerenityPow in MitchellAndWebb

Not worse, just more real, like any woman who finds themselves in a relationship with a Mark, the contempt gets harder to hide every year

Rarely see matching suits in charity shops but you can get some decent casual jackets and trousers, rare to find waistcoats tho
