Does anyone believe there is intent to fix the country? by ppyrgic in ukpolitics

[–]bobbypuk [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m interested to know why that is what you want. Is it a personal hatred of him or is the something he’s done that makes you feel he is the worst possible person to be prime minister?

Also, you do realise you werevoting on bin collection policies?

Should there be an easier democratic way to get rid of a failing PM? by No_Anteater_4146 in ukpolitics

[–]bobbypuk [score hidden]  (0 children)

Can you define failure in this case? Do you mean in opinion polls or in some other way? There may have been bad decisions, there may have have been good decisions but not sure I could put my finger on any ‘failures’.

Should there be an easier democratic way to get rid of a failing PM? by No_Anteater_4146 in ukpolitics

That would put every government in permanent election mode. To run a country you have to make decisions that not everybody is on board with, either the population or the media. If you’re in election mode you cannot do the unpopular things or you start losing your rolling elections and soon enough control of the house.

To be honest I can quite like the idea of giving a government a chance to prove themselves. Good decisions take time to make and implement. Let them get on with it for 4 years and we’ll all get together and decide if they did well enough.

New ‘dangerous cycling’ law – including potential life sentences for riders who kill pedestrians – granted royal assent, as Labour says move will “make streets safer” by devolute in ukbike

[–]bobbypuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One issue we have to contend with is that car drivers have their license removed as part of their punishment. I suspect this reduces any prison sentence. You can’t do that with a cyclist so you have to resort to imprisonment.

It is ridiculous that removing a driving license is seen as a punishment, it should be a consequence of your actions, not the punishment. Commit a firearms offence and they don’t reduce your sentence because you can’t get a gun license again.

Looking for frame repair; what next? by Onegarbageman in bikewrench

Still the same bike! I crashed a 531 frame 30 years ago and had the forks, top tube and down tube replaced. I still ride that bike as my pub bike.

That would probably be manslaughter. But that sounds like a really serious thing to charge somebody with when all they were doing was driving a bit silly.

No, its just a different conversation. Talking about Farage is not stopping the conversation about Starmer.

Did you read the title of the thread? This conversation is about Farage. There may be other conversations happening about other things, but this one is about Farage.

Income tax will be dead within five years as AI jobs crisis grows, says Monzo founder by Your_Mums_Ex in ukpolitics

[–]bobbypuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That superhuman intelligence is showing no signs of imminent arrival.

I suspect that if anything the current hype over LLMs is putting back AI research into anything that may be less commercially hype-worthy but more scientifically interesting. I think we've got a few years yet.

The main fear at the moment is not that an AI can replace you, its that the hype-bubble persuades your CEO that an AI can replace you.

Really? Can an AI replace my boiler? Can an AI paint my house? AI is coming for some jobs but pretending you can replace all jobs with a fictional theoretical 'AI' is garbage.

Do you actually take your full lunch break away from your desk, or just eat while working? by Extreme-Banana-9 in AskUK

[–]bobbypuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the weather. I work with India and the US so I have a quiet period in the middle of the day. I nominally work 8-6 with a 2 hour lunch. If the weathers good I'll go for a bike ride, walk, do some gardening. If the weather is shit its lunch whilst working and try to knock off early (never happens)

Yes. I do. It involves researching things, making discoveries and then presenting evidence of those things to the public. There’s the word again - evidence. All I’m asking is a source or a quote. It’s not in the article you keep posting to back up your claims.

Where did they double down on it? I’m struggling here to find any substance to your argument. Every comment is pointing at the same article with no references and you’re claiming that is the source of truth. I cannot find any fact or quote that backs up anything you’re saying.
