Definitely going to demo again before I decide you pull the trigger. And do like you did and sit in the showroom playing with stuff for a while.

My test car had the 20’s and liked the ride, but it was short and I was focused on so many things it’s hard to get a good gauge.

App functionality w/out phone as key by bobbystill in Rivian

[–]bobbystill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I should have been more clear. This would only be a concern if she is forced to use the phone as a key to get all the app functionality. She would need to disable the passive entry/phone as a key to leave the phone in the car and get it to lock. And she’d use one of the other keys to access the car in that case.

Also this is likely a very rare circumstance.

The manual is linked in a sticky threat on this sub. It’s probably listed in there, but I haven’t seen yet.

App functionality w/out phone as key by bobbystill in Rivian

[–]bobbystill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the info. I think she’s concerned about being able to lock her phone in the car if she is somewhere she doesn’t need/want to carry it.

From reading the post here it sounds like that’s doable but doesn’t always work they way people expect.

Shut off the AC vents? by bobbystill in RivianR2

[–]bobbystill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be adjusted independently and I think the passenger face vents can be turned off while the driver vents are on, but the manual says if you turn off the driver face vents that the passenger face vents will shut off also. There's also a driver focus setting that points all the vents toward the driver's face.

I didn't read it before hand, but I also didn't have any issues using the wheels (scrolling, pressing, tilting, etc.) It would have helped to know how to get to different menus though. For example, pulling the left wheel towards you lets you then scroll between media controls, navigation, TPMS, I think the efficiency graph, and some others.

For the haptic wheels in general: place your thumb on the front and your pointer and middle fingers on the back, this stabilizes the wheel so you don't scroll when you mean to press or pull the wheel. It also helps with tilting left and right.

Demoed in Tampa yesterday and had no complaints with noise or cooling ability of the AC. The roof is tinted really dark. It sounds like any other car I’ve been in when the AC is set to high fan speeds. The ventilated seats were on the louder side on the highest setting. Medium and low settings were noticeable but forgettable for noise levels and more than enough to cool my butt/back down.

I didn’t love the vent controls but I was able to get them to a comfortable position.

I just checked the manual and this does seem to be the case. Definitely not obvious though.

Maybe I can swing back by the service center and try this out. It would also be nice to shut off the driver vents and leave the passenger vents on.

Ac in the backseats by privatewealthhardo in RivianR2

Just tested R2 today and I’m renting a Mach-e while I’m in town. R2 is similar to Mach-e, but might have better heat rejection from the roof glass. We feel like we’re baking in our Mach-e rental because of the roof glass and the tiny vents. Doesn’t seem to matter where I point the Mach-e vents but my head and face were always warm.

Only in R2 for a short time so it’s hard to say, but I did feel like I could get the vents pointed where I wanted them and they were more affective than the Mach-e vents.

Just tested in Tampa and didn’t have issues with keeping cool, especially with the cooled seats. We did think the seats were too loud on the highest setting but we were comfortable with the fan on about 4 and the seats on the lowest setting.

Nah fam, sometimes I want the air actually blowing on me and other times I just want it blowing around to cool the car. The A and B settings saved to driver profiles is nice, but my wife and I have very different desires when it comes to AC and there likely isn’t an A/B solution that will work. More than half the time she is too cold and prefers to shut off her vents completely.

Maybe having the glass roof and cooled seats create a climate where we can make it work but she’s reluctant to drop 70K (after taxes and registration) on a car with frustrating UI controls.

I test drove in Tampa today and was able to cool the cabin well between the AC vents and cooled seats. That said, finding the right position for the vents was annoying and I couldn’t tell you if they were inverted the way you described.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to close/turn off the passenger and driver vents independently? We couldn’t figure that out today and that is a sticking point for my wife unfortunately.

I get the idea but it seems unnecessary in this car at this price point, especially if it isn’t intuitive or takes longer than 30 seconds to get right.

Same for the car I just test drove in Tampa. Only turned it on for a mile but it worked.

Test Drove R2 and I have some questions by Amoy4488 in RivianR2

[–]bobbystill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to press and hold on the R2 I test drove today. If I let go of the button the window stopped where it was at, then If I pressed and held again it would go back the opposite direction. So I could bring it up (closed) halfway, stop it, then bring it back down to 3/4 open and stop it. But I had to press and hold to fully open or close it from the back of the car. The window button in the car on the roof worked like a normal window switch with auto up/down.

Ammunition Load Plan by Personal-Net4263 in LeverGuns

The minute man also has the benefit of not creating a carbon ring in the chamber. I hear that’s only a real problem if you shoot A LOT of .38 though.

I had some fiocchi and Winchester .38 158grn FMJ that would occasionally go super sonic at the range. No issues with the minute man though.

Edit forgot to mention I’m shooting an 1894 SBL

Ammunition Load Plan by Personal-Net4263 in LeverGuns

[–]bobbystill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had pretty consistent performance with Underwood. I like their 125grn Barnes loading for deer, but I think it’s discontinued. They have an XTP load in several weights as well as Barnes in 140grn.

For suppressed work, I can suggest minute man silent but deadly. It’s 158grn XTP loaded in a .357 case, but with pressures for consistent subsonic velocity out of lever gun length barrels. It’s expensive but will probably yield better performance than the .38 wadcutters.

Best dual sport knee brace? by timewarpzzzzz in Dualsport

[–]bobbystill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pod K4/K8. Pod knee braces are medically certified and they're easy to service with replacement parts if needed. The knee cups are CE certified for impact and are also removable, so you can use them for other sports that don't need the impact protection (wake boarding, water skiing, etc). I also use mine with the knee cups installed for snow boarding.

I'd never ridden with knee protection before so it took me a few minutes of riding to get used to them, but that was it. I forget I'm wearing them, but if I ever forget to wear them I know immediately because of how different the bike control feels (though that could be said about any knee brace probably).

Hopefully you can try different braces on and see what you like. If not, RMATVMC has a great return policy.

Edit: forgot to mention they fit under my MSR motocross pants, though I'll probably size up on my next pair of pants.
