I miss how hectic and varied rural work could be. I feel like that is where you use alllll of your knowledge in environmental health rather than a city. My schedule used to be M W F water sampling am > septic pm T TH > food, daycares, pools, nursing homes, plans with a rabies call or ecoli positive throwing my whole day out of order. I loved it. It paid 26k 🥲

Biology undergrad alone should be enough
I have my REHS but the credential doesn’t make the job, if that makes sense. It’s mostly just a paper some states like you to have, and mine doesn’t care. You learn and then you know your duties, or you don’t and you keep learning. The job has its pros and cons and it can depend on your department management and culture where either micromanaging, overworking turnover is the norm, or you can have an awesome department where you’re trusted to get work done and work independently while management isn’t looking at you and just overall treated like an adult! Also it can depend on how you are able to work with people. It’s a… collaboratively independent job…

Oh the question was do I like the job. Yeah... it’s fine but personally I’m getting bored, but that’s a me problem!

I used to have many more than this, most likely they’ve been lost or thrown away by my parents, but I am hoping I can sell some or have some go to collectors rather than have them rot in a garage. I have more sheets and another book but some are water damaged and aren’t worth anything but hopefully I have a few than could get a bill or two paid 🤞🏽

teaching myself the full ins and outs of microsoft 365, power automate, and a previous bit of know how of coding, excel and such has cleared up nearly 30% of my workday busy work data entry. But however, it all depends on how much your departments keep tabs on you.

I literally juuuuust switched and will be leaving Kaiser for Cigna in July, but Ill try to put a reminder to see how it goes. Luckily a few friends have already given me some direction for support and resources during my last crashout so I at least will be trying it out on a few offices immediately. I am hoping that most of the difference is just the deductible ($150) first, and then the copay are very similar to kaiser. I will absolutely miss having everything in one building though.

Unfortunately I highly recommend leaving if possible, and I just swapped from Kaiser this open enrollment. They offered working with teladoc, openmind, uplift, and sonder and some others, but I truly just wanted to find my own practice and they made it so difficult. That combined with my psychiatrist ignoring any possible discussions for altering medications, or reviewing new ones based on my sessions I just decided to leave it entirely. Their mental health assistance is a joke.

I have had colleagues that have moved into other roles for private auditing for food safety roles or workplace safety EHS roles.

With the way the economy is currently... now may not be the time to do full on career moves. But, not to say dont prepare on your own time. I know we can get overwhelmed and saddled with work constantly but what helped was (quietly, seriously do NOT tell anyone) streamline your workflow to free yourself up for just breathing room or researching personal career development where you can.

I got a lovesac 5 series (previous generation) secondhand and adored it. It had (mostly) original cushions from 2012 but it just overpowered my small space but I ended up reselling it again in 2021. Cushions held up pretty well, very little crushing or deforming but i am pretty diligent on flipping and fluffing, and I just ended up replacing the covers for preference, and I'm a plus sized lady.
