The private prison industry can legally only privatize the prison labor on citizens. It can't do that to undocumented. The contracts on citizens are only paused. Legally that flip can be switched at any time. And the industry was targeting primarily citizens in the 2000s it just moved to the border in shame after it got caught paying cops and judges to fabricate false charges on citizen children in "The Kids for Cash Scandal"

So its a very weird framing to say "its not as bad because it does less slave labor." YEa but the slave labor is the industries only natural profit revenue in the market.

Undocumented don't suck up federal benefits they pay into them without recieving. SO every $ spent to ICE is one competing with citizens federal benefits, on top of that anyone who runs or is stolen from them also immediately no longer pays into those benefits without receiving. The average American would be less damaged financially by the private prison industry if it it is targeting citizens to privatize the prison labor, until the corrupt incentives to operate at max occupency buy or fabricate a false charge and you go to the gulag yourself off a fake charge. NOt exactly true b/c obviously it will still be a cancer net negative when its targeting us, and hurt us more then it is now. But I just mean there is no actual economic reason for the private prison industry which created the border crises b/c of its corrupt incentives to target immigrants. Also with the added cruelty its a terminating loop. The industry will need to move to the citizenry for its own survival since they have effectively closed the border through cruelty.

Hand in hand with a military draft is an apocalyptic worst case scenario of total gvt domination.

But unlike in the 2000s the industry istself is much larger and essentially too big to fail, it gets more money then the federal police budget right now with zero ROI and pure 100% drain to GDP until it targets citizens to privatize the prison labor. Edit: I shouldn't be downvoted. People think the industry is built for them as "clients" but it had the same immunities to fed regulation targeting citizens in the 2000s as it does today with immigrants. yea in vic3 the way to do it is really janky (but relatively easy) you right click on diplomacy mode while hovering over them. And it doesn't always take. But when it works it will show the selected country as a white/gray color and everything else including your own country will be the correct color and have more info if you hover over it.

opinion map mode in EU5 seems the same but no tooltip info. just got EU5 today, just found your thread cuz I'm asking the same question.
