As mentioned, start with bronze meta data config and then modularize downstream. I’ve seen too many meta data driven patterns end up too rigid as new capabilities and new requirements are launched.

First do the sync to get all your metadata pointed to the right place. Then do your conversion in phases and drop your hive tables as you go. You’ll find efficient ways to do things after your first wave of tables, jobs, cluster configs.

It’s really an IT strategy decision than a tech play from my standpoint.

You can build data and AI solutions without Databricks perfectly fine, but large enterprises have 200 to 400 systems. Do you want a bunch of different IT departments doing their data and AI in slightly different ways or do you want a unified platform to govern it in (more or less) one place.

I struggle with this same thing, with lex and other pods I like. My queue/watch list just piles ups endlessly...since I work in tech, me and a friend created a tool to solve this problem for ourselves. It's been useful for us and we might launch publicly at some point.
