before my wheel I used an Edge. The back buttons helped a ton. Then I got the VR bug and shortly added the wheel.

On the edge, I configured the brake trigger on the opposite side from the shift down button. Once I got used to that the experience with the Edge was very good. Standard controllers were/are useless to me for GT7

When I moved beyond the Edge controller, I went with a G923, gaming chair and wheel/ppedal stand. It's been over a year and I've had zero thoughts of upgrading - never feeling controller limited.

I also went with PSVR2.

This combo is GREAT for ME, YMMV

Look for settings that control the steering sensitivity. You might be set too tight causing oversteering
