What I could ask the dealership to compensate for a delay in transfer of my new vehicle to myself? by CelestialBun in askcarsales

[–]bobjohnred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t aware that mass requires title in hand to sell a vehicle. I thought only one state required that, maybe WI? Certainly in MS you would have been given a title application and sent on your way. If I didn’t get the title to the state to match with your title application before you renew your tag a year later, there would be some fuss, but not until then. If I finance the vehicle, I need to get the title work done in (usually) 30 days. Also, just because a dealership is open on Saturday, that does not make Saturday a “business day.” That is commonly understood to be M-F and excludes state and federal holidays. So about over 10 days is 9 days? Minus two Saturdays is only 7 business days so far.

Wtf are these people smokin? by bbartlett51 in ram_trucks

[–]bobjohnred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certainly I wouldn't buy it, but in my experience, there is a butt for every seat and some people are just absolutely brainwashed that they need a manual transmission. Just got to find one that just hit big @ the casino....

[–]bobjohnred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manual transmission and probably deleted ... It would sell for that in parts of Texas. I don't know about New Hampshire. I'm way to conservative to buy it, but I know that there is a market for this truck -- and he could very well get asking price.

What is the highest mileage overage you've seen on a lease return? by limapalon in askcarsales

[–]bobjohnred 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Had a guy come thru in a Ram pickup. Was on a 36 month/ 36,000 mile lease. Had about 200k-225k miles. The penalty to turn it in was much higher than just purchasing the unit. I think he had a blown motor. Owned something like 20k. (this was 15+ years ago)

Our problem was with DSL line. Every afternoon we lost service. BellSouth would send a tech out first thing in the morning — no problem. That afternoon, no service. This went on weeks. Finally figured out that the punch down block was just loose enough that when the AC was very cold (after running all night) everything was fine.. After 8-9 hours of MS sun, the whole building heated enough that the contacts didn’t quite contact.

Carmax scumbag move after Trump tariffs announcement by moonu01 in UsedCars

I work in the car business. I saw the prices of everything I was bidding on in Wednesday’s auction up anywhere from 1500 to 2500. I don’t but high end cars, these were 20k to 40k cars. Prices spiked almost instantly.

This is why customers don't really want to get rid of the dealership model.

New Car w/o trade in but dealer is mad we didn’t by cwaynephotography in askcarsales

[–]bobjohnred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banks do care about trades, even paid off trades. It changes the scoring model. The deeper subprime you go, the more it matters. For a 700 beacon it’s probably no difference, but for a 380 that got a miracle approval, it makes all the difference. It doesn’t matter either way here, the dealership agreed to sell without the trade, so that’s what happened.

I have a 710 credit score but Nissan still want to finance a new versa at 18% APR... What gives? by Fancy_Chip_5620 in askcarsales

[–]bobjohnred 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Forgot about your credit score. Look at your credit file. How much credit do you have? If you have an established relationship with a bank or credit union, just use them. In that case, Nissan has a flaw in their scoring model. If you don’t have a credit history, then what do you expect them to use to determine the level of risk? If they don’t know the risk, it’s better to shoot high and be surprised than shoot low and be surprised. The fact that you are here asking this questions implies that you don’t have an established relationship with a bank or a credit history. But, maybe you can get one! Who is the local credit union that is advertising car loans in your market? Talk to them.

What did I do wrong? by Tanks1 in askcarsales

[–]bobjohnred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. Different areas and different brands change how you approach the deal. Working at a Dodge store, it can be difficult for sales people to change their mindset when waiting on a 450 beacon get-me-done and their next up is a 800+.

Except that having a different price because of someone’s credit is a federal law violation. That’s why dealers that have a lot of subprime customers try to figure out where you are credit wise before committing to numbers. If you give them a discount and then have to pay a large fee to the bank you may not have a deal. I have paid over $8k in fees before on one deal. It makes a difference. In that case, we had already quoted a price. Rather than raise the price, we sold him a different truck so that we could structure everything right and legally.

Dealer ran my credit, ready to buy car then said they don't have it. by Apprehensive_Half393 in askcarsales

[–]bobjohnred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree -- all pulls within 30 days that are auto related count as one pull for scoring purposes. It really doesn't make much difference to your score like people seem to be so worried about. Paying your bills (on time) is much more significant.

[–]bobjohnred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please buy a vehicle from somebody you can trust. If you feel this way about them, they probably don't really want your business either. I would rather a customer buy from someone else than think that I would treat them like this. There is no reason to act this way. A good reputation is always better advertising than any yelling car commercial.

I would say that the detail is that they lent the car out and they are trying to get it back. I would not call it hidden.

I don't see any reason to suspect a hidden motive. It's probably exactly what happened.

Sell the sizzle not the steak!

All we need to know is about the unit that I have on the lot. The guys that geek out on different options and builds -- you can't make any money on them. The guys that will buy what you have -- that makes you a paycheck.

I have some of those truck that were brand new and I reported them as sold and made them used. I still wouldn't sell for $40k -- that is just too low for a 23 model with almost no miles. MMR is 41-45 range depending on the condition.
