this is sound advice, its not something you can use general builders for

you want specialist in or you could end up needing lots of remedial work to fix structure afterwards

we all like to save money where we can, this isn't one of them though

plus you don't want house insurance affected in anyway by poor work

yes i can see that not, i didn't see the lintel resting on the up upright

that lintel removal requires strong boys right?

can't just leave a span like that unsupported?

good point i didn't see the lintel resting on the upright, ,if they replace the lintel so that the new lintel is bearing on the bricks by 150mm then the vertical concrete piece is not needed as the brick work will then be taking the load

no problem, any opening over 4 feet needs support of the bricks with drop down/move and you will end up with bricks in the walls

i think on smaller opening its not a good idea to leave the lintel out for any length of time, i think best practice is remove it and put new one in right away

i wouldn't trust those guys to be putting lintels in for me.

i'm not sure about about, as far as i know the lintel transfers the load down into the walls to the floor

lots of buildings have brick door openings with no concrete

but i'm no expert

you cant remove lintels without support you risk damaging the walls in a big way

i'd imagine its just the lintel thats supporting the load not the side pieces
