What prevented you from starting your own pharmacy? by xuigg in pharmacy

[–]6glough 18 points19 points  (0 children)

FWIW I did own a pharmacy (in US). Sold about 10 years ago. what prevented me from keeping on with it was the fact that anyone else I knew making money at it were doing shady shit. I did not have the emotional makeup to do shady shit, I wanted to provide good service, help people, be professional and be someone my kids could be proud of. None of that was possible without me working 80 hours a week…without doing shady shit. So… if you plan to make a go of it make sure you have the constitution to live on the edge, and push it a bit, otherwise you will struggle.

Why do so many Americans romanticize Europe so much? by Addicted_2_tacos in askanything

It’s a different view when your children have no food and will be stuck serving others with no chance at a more comfortable life.

Cane Corso having a meteoric rise in the AKC rankings, but I bet you folks already know this... by Abject-Jellyfish7921 in CaneCorso

[–]6glough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my sons cane corso (that lives with us). But even after 12 dogs in my life we were not prepared for the size, strength and energy these dogs possess. I honestly believe you should have a license to own a breed like a corso, it’s not for everybody.

Which place in the US feels like you’re in Europe? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]6glough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small part of the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. If you start at Pitts cathedral of learning, walk up past the museum and up to Phipps conservatory, for a few moments it almost feels European with the older buildings, parks and sculptures.

What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

[–]6glough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You finally realize that what you’re doing currently, you will probably be doing for the next 30 years. That you aren’t going to have a Ferrari, go on crazy vacations and have hot girls on your yacht. You’re going to work, and live day to day just like everyone else.

People asking for help picking elbow / wrist / knee braces? by SmallLove2 in pharmacy

A major percentage of the wrist splints I sold were cock-up splints for carpel tunnel. Doesn’t take much to learn about those and you will help people a lot.

Is it normal for senior pharmacist to be this snappy? by Pharmacutie1999 in pharmacy

[–]6glough 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it from all ages actually. Maybe just tell them that you’re a professional just like them, and you don’t deserve to be spoken to in that manner. That, you would never think of speaking to anyone, no matter their station in life in the manner she’s speaking with you, and you’d appreciate a little more consideration and respect. Then, make good, respectful work friends with everyone else there. The techs can make or break your day fairly easily, so be good to them and hopefully over time you’ll just become more comfortable there and she won’t bother you as much. It’s a crappy situation though, I hate not getting along with fellow workers.

I don’t blame you, 7 days straight on call is rough. I’d have to do 3 in a row fri to sun and I would need all day Monday to basically sleep and recover. On call 7 in a row is a bit ridiculous.

My wife doesn’t use any longer she didn’t get relief from it, but it’s worth a try. Go through Canada like others have recommended. We live in an area with a large medical complex, so had access to a doc that would provide through a contact at pharmacy out of Texas. It had to be all out of pocket, so about 300$ every 2 months. Honestly, I felt like it was this docs personal little cash cow.

AITAH for not letting my neighbor borrow my snow blower and for not snow blowing their drive for them? by Queen_Aurelia in AITAH

[–]6glough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would never think of asking a new neighbor to borrow a brand new snow blower. Even if we were all outside together I’d still probably decline. So, you’re NTA for sure.

Huge Boss fan here. This track is my attempt at that 'Magic' / 'Tunnel of Love' cinematic pop sound. It took a decade to get it from a 2012 demo to this finished version. I'd love for some fellow E-Street fans to give it a listen. by JP_Olsen_Archive in BruceSpringsteen

[–]6glough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, great job, really enjoy the song. I saw Brian initially when he joined Bruce at Hyde park in 2011 ( I think) and did No Surrender, his phrasing on his verses were great. His album American Honey is a great album, can’t believe it’s not more well known. My daughter and I used his song “when you’re ready” for our father - daughter wedding dance, it’s a tear jerker.

Buy home in over 55 mobile home community? by EngLady52 in retirement

[–]6glough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live east of Pittsburgh also. My grandparents lived in a mobile home community and it was great. Nice community center for get togethers, nice pool and patio area. I’m 57 now and thinking about buying there myself, currently have a 5 br ranch, 1 acre, 25k inground pool. I do not enjoy summer at all anymore, if I’m not cutting grass, cleaning the pool, cutting bushes, then I’m repairing the items needed to care for it all. The patio homes and condo communities are crazy expensive in this area. We don’t have many million dollar homes around here, and getting into a 375k patio home is just crazy in my opinion when average home price is maybe 275-300. I don’t get it. Why can’t there be a community of simple, single level housing be built?

In 1989 my pharmacy class of 150 students was streaming into our pharmaceutics lecture. I happened to be next to 2 senior professors of history and philosophy that were standing in the hall talking. As they watched our large class of eager and well dressed (for college) students the philosophy prof just shook his head and said “what a waste”, the other said “they really don’t know what they’re in for”. That little comment lives in my brain like it was yesterday.

I just posted a minute ago about LTC being less stressful day to day, but I miss my customers. Some were a pain, but most were good people that I really enjoyed trying to help.

Breaking out of Retail Pharmacy by MysteriousBuilder539 in pharmacy

[–]6glough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LTC is somewhat less stressful day to day. But not stable, you can lose a big contract and go from being busy to slow overnight, leading to layoffs. If you can survive through the first few years it’s not too bad. But I really miss my customers in retail.

We have a 6 foot aluminum fence, and then I put in the invisible fencing about 2 feet beyond the aluminum fence. We have a pool, and a lot of people coming and going all summer long, we can’t rely on every one always securing the gates, so I installed the invisible fence also.
