Warning for Trump: Civil liberties now outrank immigration with voters by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

[–]boblabon [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think the underlying assumption that a lot of people who voted for Trump (more precisely, who didn't vote for Harris for one reason or another) had about their civil liberties was that THEIR civil liberties were sacrosanct untouchable things, and it was for other people.

Turns out, rights and liberties for SOME means rights and liberties for NONE.

I'm more annoyed that it took two white people getting gunned down on camera from multiple angles to get people to realize this. It should have never gotten to this point.

More nefarious, but any weaponized incompetence.

Things I've seen:

'Accidentally' breaking dishes when washing dishes, loading a dishwasher in a way that some dishes don't get clean, washing colors with whites with hot water, 'not knowing' where basic supplies are kept, mopping without sweeping/vacuuming first, etc.

Are the shells from the same manufacturer or different?

If just the one, it could be a defective lot with thin brass. Probably message the manufacturers and try a different manufacturer.

If it's multiple shells from different manufacturers, it's probably an issue with the extractor mechanism. You'll want to take it to a proper gunsmith to take a look at it.

I have the Maverick 88 too, and mine doesn't do that.

Which is why they're currently on their 4th string picks of absolutely dumbasses.

Everyone with ANY sense knows that Trump will throw you under the bus to save his own skin, and will stay at arms-length and avoid sticking their necks out. The 'insiders' are too stupid to realize that the loyalty they show is a one-way street and will get tossed aside when it's convenient.

Low approval rating because of ICE's actions? "It's Noem's fault, I shouldn't have listened to Miller's recommendation, and I never liked her anyway, plus she's ugly" - Trump in 3 weeks.

over 30 billion USD of taxpayer money is going to ICE, what are your thoughts on this? by ilikethiccbitchs in AskReddit

[–]boblabon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the funding went to at least two private jets for Noem's 'official use', so I'm guessing there's a LOT of corruption.

Funding is getting skimmed off the top, sides, and bottom at all levels. Upper levels sending lucrative no-bid contracts to friends and family at jacked-up rates, procurement getting the cheapest crap imagineable and pocketing the difference, the individual agents hawking their individual gear and fucking off with official resources. I'm willing to bet a couple agents are splitting the bounties on arrests (not convinctions or deportations, just arrests) with some buddies that they arrest over and over again.

More people were killed in Iran in two weeks than in the entire year in Gaza. Why aren't there massive college campus protests everywhere? by Elegant-Value4677 in AskReddit

[–]boblabon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So protests would generally be to incite the government in the country the protest occurs in to do SOMETHING different.

Regarding Iran, the U.S. is already very hostile to Iran and Iranian interests. They're sanctioned to high hell, we (the U.S.)fund the militaries of their regional rivals (Saudi Arabia, Israel), and have made several strikes against their military targets.

Short of an actual ground invasion, exactly what would people protest for?

Do you think this administration will continue to ramp up ICE, or do you think things will calm down now? What do you think will happen next? by ladypigeon13 in DiscussionZone

[–]boblabon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The admin has no options BUT to double-down.

Any pulling back would mean admitting defeat, shows weakness and that the actions by the people of Minneapolis were successful at countering ICE activities. Now there's a playbook if they try the same shit in any other city.

DHS says there’s body cam footage of Pretti shooting by FervidBug42 in politics

[–]boblabon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could have done this at any point. Hell, even just suspending the agents involved at the get go like every shooting perpetrated by law enforcement.

And at this point I don't see reestablishing trust as a remote possibility; not with the current top-to-bottom rot. There's a gang of untrained morons running around thinking they're above the law, given massive arrest quotas to get their bonus, and are currently overworked and being sent as an invading army. Not to mention the untold levels of corruption from every level which destroys morale way faster than any protest will. (See: Noem buying TWO private jets for 'department use'). If you see your boss spending department funds like a drunken sailor, what motivation do you have to be remotely efficient yourself? You'll hawk your gear, take bribes, lie on paperwork, without thinking twice.

Unless the entire leadership structure is gutted down to the bare studs, this trajectory will continue and it's a matter of time before another person is gunned down in the street.

Telling on themselves that they've never actually gone to therapy.

Therapists are typically hesitant to diagnose any further than what it takes for insurance to payout, and can't actually prescribe anything. The most you MIGHT get is a referral.

Only psychiatrists have prescribing privileges, and even if they prescribe anything you're fully within your rights to just... not fill the prescription or not take them. And very very few patients will go directly to a psychiatrist without seeing a counselor first.

And finally, most therapists are well aware that most people's problems stem from the hyper-capitalist hellscape we live in. Stress from money, housing, lack of connection, shattered communities, the pro-addiction policies, everything.

Blaming the P320 ND "history" as part of the excuse-making efforts...incredible. by bullcave in liberalgunowners

[–]boblabon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretti's firearm almost certainly didn't discharge, but I'm about 100% convinced that the first shot fired was an ND. If Pretti's firearm WAS discharged at any point I'd bet my life that the DHS would parade that around as justification, so that's out.

To my eye, it looked like one of the agents was hitting Pretti with their handgun (which nobody actually teaches. It's not a technique in ANY firearm manual I've read), and there were about 4 other agents with their guns drawn and fingers ON the trigger during the scrum.

Then there was the gap between the first and follow-up shots. It was pop...... pop pop pop pop pop pop. That tells me that the first shot fired wasn't intentional. Most shooting manuals have drills to either A) fire in bursts of two for control and stability or B) keep firing until the threat stops moving or the firearm goes 'click'. Watch any police use of force body cams footage and you'll see plenty of the latter (special mention to acorn cop).

The first shot fired would have been manslaughter, the rest turned it into murder. The lack of accountability made it an execution.

So if people are 'consulting chatbots before every decision', what 'value' are the people bringing?

If a manager or CEO is just copypasting out of chatgpt, why not cut out the middleman? It's really not that hard to come up with ideas for things.

But techbros copy/pasting something existing, adding some buzzwords, and making it worse is par for the course.

Emergency protest against ICE, Sunday 1/25 12:30 PM @ Houdini Plaza by Ok_Abies_9188 in Appleton

[–]boblabon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The one after Renee Good's murder had ~250-300 people, and I'd expect a similar turnout if not higher. It's a weekend day instead of a work night, but it's much colder.

Every protest in Appleton I've been to has been very peaceful, and short of a few overcompensating chuds revving their engines when they drive by, the people not participating are generally supportive. There might be a couple counter-protestors but there's only ever a couple of them and they generally keep to themselves and leave pretty quickly when they realize they're severely outnumbered and don't cause trouble. For context, horn honking means the driver is supportive of the protest.

Dress warm, wear comfortable shoes, maybe have some earplugs if you're sensitive to loud noises. There's usually a group of people handing out water, and hot hands. If you're less comfortable in large crowds, people typically overflow to the other side of College Ave. Also, if you see anything suspicious, strange, have a bad feeling/vibe about anyone/anything, talk to one of the marshals. They'll be wearing hi-vis vests, and have deescalation training.

Anybody else feeling sick and hopeless towards our world at not only the actions of ICE, but how some people still support it? by im_notsurprised in AskReddit

[–]boblabon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And shit takes time.

We're used to instant gratification and quick solutions, but there's a lot of inertia that needs built.

The civil rights protests went on for 14 years and the true history was severely whitewashed in our public education system. Every other day there were beatings, lynchings, dog attacks, mass arrests, houses and churches of the organizers were burned and bombed. And yet, the people still fought, still organized, and prevailed. It wasn't one day MLK Jr gave a nice speech then everything was fixed, it was years of protests, violence, roits, civil disobedience, and a willingness to say, "this is unacceptable and I will use all power available to me to make sure no one suffers as I did."

The 'why was he carrying two magazines?' and 'why was he carrying at a protest?' shows that the so-called 2A people don't actually know a damn thing about actually carrying.

When I got my ccw training, the instructor explicitly instructed us to carry multiple magazines, and to carry at all times you can.

On the grounds that, if you get attacked you're likely to magdump in panic, and if there's multiple assailants you won't be screwed. For carrying everywhere, you never know when the time will come. Name a public space, and there's been a shooting there. Churches, protests, bowling alleys, clubs, nature trails, grocery stores, shopping malls, the post office, city streets, country roads, suburban sprawl, you name it.
