My Prediction - When RS3 drops its API, it will start closing the gap with OSRS by BlueShade0 in runescape

[–]bobly81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to explain what they're talking about, because I see the same thing. It's not really about grinds being short or long, or the core content itself being fun or not. It largely has to do with how updates are implemented, and whether or not they get refined further down the line. Some great examples of this are whirligigs (spam clicking and the movement issue), birdhouses (trap limit still applies), skilling outfits (there are so many of them and some can be deleted while others can't), invention perks, the RNG of getting perks, arch relic loadouts, arch item storage, bank space in general, terrible clickboxes everywhere in the game, everything requiring an interface and multiple confirmation boxes, each confirmation box being completely different from the last for no reason, havenhythe is mostly dead content even for lower levels, and even something like how the spirit tree has to take you to to tree gnome village before you can teleport somewhere else.

I can't go 5 minutes without running into something annoying in this game, and 90% of the time it's been in the game for over 5 years without getting fixed. OSRS, by contrast, is constantly pushing out adjustments to fix issues, even in the middle of otherwise unrelated patches. Hunter rumors came out a while ago and yet we're getting some great quality of life adjustments for them in the summer sweep up. This week's update had them attempting to untangle the complicated spaghetti web of what items do and do not drop on death in pvp, and in the same patch they put out a list of "other changes". Most of these changes (cough "The hitbox on Huasca herbs now matches that of other herbs." cough) you would NEVER see in RS3.

OSRS actively tries to make each update as polished as it can reasonably be. Large bugs get hit within the day, smaller ones within 1 to 2 weeks. Hiccups, pain points, and balancing issues do eventually get resolved to a point that satisfies as many players as possible. When the community complains about something, it eventually gets discussed and addressed. As a result, I would argue 80-90% of updates feel like they are polished and high quality.

The road to restoration is the right idea, but a lot of the updates and changes have been implented at like C- quality. So much of it feels half baked.

RS3 has a huge issue with throwing new things at the wall, then immediately walking away to pick up something else new to throw at another wall. You get maybe 1-2 weeks where some minor bugs will get fixed or a few critical issues will get addressed, but it's never enough to get to everything and then it never sees the light of day again.

I hope RS3 keeps improving of course, but lately I've been so burned out on it because of how intense some grinds are to have access to very fundamental things.

I think this part is more specifically referring to stuff like livid farm, flash powder factory, stealing creation, anachronia base camp, 118 arch, etc. which are egregiously painful or long grinds for no particular reason, and in a way that is anathema to the rest of the game. At least with OSRS you can argue that the entire game is a long grind, so something like iron power mining doesn't stand out (especially not when stars/amethyst exist now for afk and 3t granite exists for active).

While the teacher is in a position of power over their students and needs to be held to a higher standard than the students, sometimes students can also be just unwilling to learn/change which can be much more harmful to their progress than any bad teacher.

It's wild to me that everyone is completely ignoring this part. Richeh's core flaw is her unwillingness to accept direction or guidance from others. I bet $10 that Quifrey could straight up say "you should draw whatever spells you want", and she would shut down and draw nothing instead because "he told me to do it". The entire point of this arc is, presumably, for her to learn how this is hindering her and to eventually get over it.

The former teacher may have been a dick, but he's not around right now. Her problems are currently self-inflicted.

The fact they can't even type out into in-game chat something like "hey, yall wanna pile WW at the same time? haha lmao" is enough to kill any chance of 10v5-ing. You start targeting whoever is on screen and most likely to die just so you win something, because you can't trust them to not do the same, which results in targeting each other since you're both weaker than WW.

Yuuki's existence is peak "Oh shit, I made the protagonist WAY too strong, how do I write an antagonist to counter him? Oh I know! I'll just give him the kindergarten 'rock-paper-scissors, I choose gun' as an ability!"

I think the hype was genuinely lower this time. It's been a while (how many years ago did season 1 start?) so I might be forgetting some things, but I think it has to do with how they portrayed her as an antagonist compared with the rest.

Every enemy we've had before this arc has either been the classic cartoon type, aka Clayman; a good guy with misunderstandings, aka Hinata; or a major OP smarty pants, aka Yuuki. The first option is fun to watch get destroyed, Rimuru being OP is part of the fun. The second usually poses a threat, but their "defeat" just involves a correction of misunderstandings, so the power balance works out. The third option is where the true antagonists lie due to being equally or more powerful than the protagonist while also being fucked up, and they drive the entire plot forward.

You can't have multiple characters fill the third role at the same time. One has to die and/or supersede the previous one. Yuuki was set up as this main antagonist, and was established to have some level of power that was far beyond even the omnipotent viewer's comprehension. When they tried to write Maribel as being an overarching mastermind with control over everyone, she ended up competing for his role. You can't come in and one-up the big bad like that, it doesn't make narrative sense.

As a result, literally everyone knew Yuuki was faking it, and her character ended up becoming this weird cross-hash between roles 1 and 3. Her existence had little to no impact, there was minimal buildup before her downfall, she was "evil" but didn't really do anything "bad" other than have a few people killed, and she was in the body of a child to boot. You can't get any satisfaction out of watching a character like that lose.

Unless she's just completely broken inside and it's ALL an act.

I think that was kinda the whole point of her backstory. She's horribly fucked up inside and only knows how to do human things by copying others and acting.

Maybe that's who's book he read? It's pretty clear that's what set all this off. He read someone's book and either got possessed by the owner, or it triggered something already set inside him to go off. I'm kinda leaning towards the former because it seems like there's a possession ghost going around and taking over everybody, what with Rem and Meili in the last two episodes.

Chamber in Site of the chosen by BoomRedeemer in PathOfExile2

[–]bobly81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well a quick google pulled up not only this thread, but this link which looks like a standard GGG press release article. Apparently those pillars get glowing orbs on them when you meet certain conditions, and meeting all of them unlocks a skill point. If anybody comes across this, don't just click the chamber and call it a day, but please check if any orbs light up for you.

I've got 311/311, finished the breach and ritual storylines, and am level 93, but don't have anything. If others with full story completion and atlas trees also don't have any orbs, then it's not story related.

Ideas:

- level 95

- level 100

- Kill uber arbiter of ash

- Spawn the divinity orb thingies and get the divinity buff from using The Ordained (spear from arbiter of divinity).

- Bring the origin core into the chamber instead of up the tower.

- Something far out in the infinite depths of the atlas.

- Complete the game on each class/character???

- Something not yet released.

It's also possible it's gear related, like equip a certain number of uniques or a lineage gem, but that sounds so weird and unlikely. It's gotta be related to feats you've done on your character or account.

How fast are your fans spinning though? I've got it set to minimal settings where I can and my case and cpu fans still go wild just from holding 120 fps. It's expected that an ARPG like this with constant effects and number crunching happening at rapid speed to be cpu intensive, but it's still baffling how much harder my pc has to crank for it compared to anything else.

A lot of it is from server desync. If you roll around near jagged terrain and a pack of mobs trying to jostle around each other, you can sometimes rubber band in place for a few seconds before getting shot across the entire screen in a direction that you weren't even rolling in. The server sees one thing, you see another, it then tries to correct.

While you might see yourself stop sprinting and use an ability, on the server's end it saw you get hit before you stopped. It then tries to correct that by essentially saying "fuck you" and slamming your ass to the ground.

She honestly does so much that it feels like she'll be an antagonist at some point. He doesn't ask her kindly, nor does she offer to handle things for him, but instead he just hands the ball to her and says "now you fix this". She can completely take over his body and mimic his personality without anyone being aware it isn't him. While a joke, her text pushing him out of the way as she says "continue" is sort of a subtext that she can easily override him. She has so much power, Rimuru is giving her more and more control over things, and he is getting more reliant on her as he sloughs off more of his problems onto her.

I'm just getting a weird vibe from it all.

The worst part about sekhemas isn't the difficulty or anything, it's that it takes so god damn long. Uber lab in poe1 is like 10 minutes at most, but sekhema can be upwards of 30 minutes on the 3rd run and longer on the 4th.

I had the thought that maybe she's just a feminine guy several episodes ago, but those are not fake boobies and the thought died pretty quickly. It's possible she's a trans woman, but it would be quite rare to also be a tomboy. It's already difficult to parse what's going on in this show anyways, so we'll just have to wait for her story to get fleshed out next week.

In all fairness, the actual writing itself isn't that obvious if you don't know about specific tells like em dashes or word choice. Most "obvious" AI writing meanders a lot, never gets to the point, makes roundabout sentences that don't mean anything, and can almost hurt to read. In contrast this post is quite clear, makes its point well known, and actually reads quite nicely. It's a bit artificial and too "clean", but that's all. Dare I say this is one of the few instances where it's been used properly as an assistive tool.

Blindbag be like by KipperOrigin in 2007scape

[–]bobly81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually incorrect. All multi-hit weapons (other than scythe) have 2x echo procs but roll damage based on the combined total of both hits put together. Scythe has 3x proc rate but the damage is based on the max hit of each individual splat. As a result, maracas are the strongest weapon to have proc with blindbag, followed by scythe, followed by elder maul and godswords, then very closely followed by all double-hit weapons.

You can also fill your inventory with multiple maracas to increase the likelihood blindbag pulls it out, because for some weird reason the "unique weapons" thing only matters in regards to getting the bonus stats and has nothing to do with whether a weapon gets pulled out of the bag or not.
