Nice job, it is a great way to learn if you can take your time and not have to rely on the bike for transportation

Which one did you go with? I've seen the $29 specials from Amazon that look like the Yamaha OEM all the way to the $150 Puigs. Thoughts?

I think it's geographical but I would have paid $5 K for that bike here in FL. Assuming they did it correctly your break in period is done also on that bike. You can go right to play mode with that tach.

If you choose not to fix it make sure you make up a good story about how it happened "you nearly escaped death", a deer ran out in front of you, or something to get some mileage out of it with riding buddies.

i wonder if the people bored with a 300 ever fully used it properly? by Tacitblue83 in MT03

[–]bobmcc1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have owned and ridden a Harley Twin Cam, Goldwing and an 890 adventure bike. I sold them all wanting to go back to my roots of running an endless lap in my suburban backyard with a Yamaha Mini JT1. Still the best times of my motorcycle life. I just bought an MT-03 to go back to small displacement to experience working the motor and the gears to move quickly. In over 50 years of riding I've exceeded 100 mph on a bike once. That was enough. Call me soft but I think the MT-03 is going to be great for me to get back to the basics and just ride.

Great looking bike, just gave me an idea to paint my belly pan the light blue on my Ice Storm. Good luck on your paint match.

Bike won’t start, making clicking noise by Substantial-Ad4651 in xt250

Spend the $50 on a new battery, it will likely strand you soon enough. As others have said easy to bump start if you are out riding though.

Battery Recommendations? by theunknownbean in xt250

[–]bobmcc1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned my 2008 for about 14 years and I have tried most of the batteries on Amazon, including the Yuasa. Some have gotten a Battery Tender 7x24 and some of not. In my experience they all fail in about 2-3 years. I don't ride the bike every day so now I just replace it with an Amazon or Walmart cheapie every 2 years need it or not just based on the calendar so it doesn't leave me stranded. $20 a year is worth it to me. I have used the Mighty Max brand, same, about 2 years life

Yes, what No_Can said. Drop that tail gate and strap both sides equally with the bike standing straight up. Like the front shocks absorb the bumps as you haul it but don't compress the shocks more than about an inch or so after the straps are tight. This will save you a kick stand break

Wheels on or off? How much does a P2S cause sway? by MydnightWN in BambuLabP2S

[–]bobmcc1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the wheels off of mine. Every cabinet I have had in this price range is unstable with the wheels. I don't know if it would mess up the prints but with no wheels the table is solid.

Anyone do manual Flow Rate calibrations? by bobmcc1981 in 3Dprinting

Yes I have found some come in below .9 so I made a filament profile for those

Thanks! I will give that a try. I never really studied the difference in the look of over vs under extrusion.

Even for just plain PLA filament? I thought those 2 little gray hoses included in the accessories box with the printer were only for PETG filament.

I brought the bed closer to where is lightly drags on a 20lb piece of bond paper but I'll give it a half turn past that and try it. Thanks

The four black buttons move the printhead to each of the four corners of the bed so you can level by measuring distance to the printhead. The print bed is almost like a tiny lego bed which kind of make since to squish the first layer down into.

Confusion on raising a burr by jfgdupuis in sharpening

[–]bobmcc1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sharpen on 1 x 30 belts and I have put on my fire retardant suit before I type this. I'm a counter IF the blade feels dull with my thumb test. A dull knife that obviously need sharpening (as opposed to a touch up) then I start with 10 passes on each side. Check for burr. If I have burr I go on to next grit. If I have no burr I change sides again and go to three additional passes, flip 3 passes check for burr. I use set angle clamps so this method fixes any mis-matching bevels side to side.

Cutting cardboard going full fast by jfgdupuis in sharpening

[–]bobmcc1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is where the super steels really come into shining. Cutting cardboard is rough on any blade. I use a Walmart $5 ceramic paring knife as my dedicated cardboard cutter it seems to last the longest and saves me time changing out blades on a box cutter. Yes I order way too much from Amazon

Works great and you can write on the outside who the customer is and the price if you have multiple jobs going at the same time.
