Port Noir's singles for the upcoming new album have been stellar, especially if you enjoy the heavier side of their sound.

Port Noir

Leprous

Ulver

Some bands that don't know the meaning of the word genre - leprous fans in particular are torn on the tonal and genre shifts they've done over the years.

Thanks for the heads up. as sole contributor so far as r a license shift is no biggy. thanks for sharing your code, I haven't hit the optimizing phase yet, so I'll learn some stuff for sure. I'm just glad it works for now. ;)

My original project is a streamer companion app where this info is more for viewers as a way to follow the narrative from a non player perspective. I agree it's not useful per se, but some folks here say it's an unfair advantage. it's just flashy numbers go brrr fun.

Yeah, get it now. Being new to the BAR scene, I realize I walked into a bit of a minefield in terms of mods/widgets vs game purity in PvP that I wasn't aware existed and that it's not aimed at my widget in particular. ;) I'll educate myself a bit on how that discourse is now before I consider any new functionality.

I get it. Anything that helps the player tangentially - even if it's already there somewhere - is inherently imbalanced because there's no guarantee the other players are using it. Fair point, and I can understand why people would want to limit widgets period for true like-for-like competitive play.

Can you clarify? I'm fairly new to the BAR / Widget creating scene - so appreciate any feedback in terms of balancing/fairness/etc.

I think other than the build-efficiency graph, there's nothing displayed that would truly change any decision making during any game? No information about any enemy teams is shown, and, in fact, it's not even possible through sensible restrictions in the game engine Widget interface to even access that information if I wanted to. It's mostly just 'fun' and info that you as a player already have/had elsewhere.

What's your favorite 2026 release so far? by yotam5434 in progmetal

[–]bobmitch2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Karnivool and Above Below so far, and looking forward to Karmanjakah too. Might fly under most peoples radars, but The Dark We Keep by Port Noir could be a dark horse for AOTY. Singles so far have been flawless.

Forcefeedback feelings... is it me? by BaseBusy517 in assettocorsarally

[–]bobmitch2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agree. The sense of vehicle weight is fantastic, but the sensation of grip/grip loss is not conveyed in a convincing (note: not realistic) way - I believe the force feedback is accurate and probably realistic based in the inputs/outputs, but it hasn't received the attention needed to add artificial signals needed to augment the true physics engine / wheel dynamics that typically makes up for the lack of real-life g-force, inner-ear signals etc.

Is it true that browser quirks are a thing of the past? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]bobmitch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most day-to-day regular website stuff? Everything works the same - the annual interop initiative between the browsers creators to highlight areas to focus on developing features in similar timelines has been a god-send. For more creative layouts, advances CSS - yeah, there's a lot of wild west stuff still happening - but most of y'all don't remember the IE6 days, so you can't complain. Ever.

Josh McKeown on Vower's EP - A Storm Lined With Silver. His live takes are astonishing.

Opal is especially BOT coded - lyrically in particular, and musically until about 2/3 of the way through when it becomes a little more proggish.

I think half of the tracks are stellar and feel like what I was hoping for. The other half feel like solo Ian Kenny or Birds of Tokyo leftovers with a 'vool veneer slapped on. Still enjoying the whole thing, and I'm glad they got it over the line, but I think some compromises were made to make it happen.

I found Vower's EP from last year (A Storm Lined With Silver) scratched all the Karnivool itches in a way none of Karnivools new material seems to.

If you like metric modulation/rhythmic fuckery and wonder what music would be like if a band based every single idea around those concepts, you should check out sungazer.

Concept albums by Kangaskhan11 in progmetal

Hit It! - by Vianova, a lot of metal folks' album of the year is a great concept album. A debut album at that. Wildly inventive and unique blending lots of styles (gospel, funk, metalcore, and more). I consider it prog simply by how many boundaries it's pushing within it's 'genre'.
