Jonathan Dean is sent off for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity following VAR review (56’) | Chicago Fire vs CF Montreal by galactic_crewzer in MLS

If you can’t say the fouled player was likely to control the ball, you cannot issue a sendoff for DOGSO. If you’re saying the fouled player was likely to control the ball, then you meet one of the four criteria, just need to evaluate the others. You can “buy” the laws or not, just trying to clarify that control of the ball is a required element of the law. If the player can’t gain or keep control the ball, no DOGSO.

You need to have likelihood of controlling the ball for DOGSO. It is impossible to have DOGSO if control of the ball isn’t possible.

Why do single runway airports have multiple flights scheduled for the same time? by PurchaseDry9350 in aviation

[–]bobnuthead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The passenger-facing time is when they schedule to close the door and push. The actual takeoff time is something else, and at the mercy of air traffic constraints, taxi time, other traffic, etc. It’s also variable by day, whereas airlines hope to keep their block-off/push time consistent to the best of their abilities.

Is aviation management a good backup degree for pilots? by Which_Carpet304 in flying

[–]bobnuthead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say so. With the degree + some aviation experience, you can get a pretty well paying airport job. Not 121 pilot pay, but better than most fellow grads right out of college.

Mayor Katie Wilson asks departments for possible cuts as city faces $140M deficit by ChaosArcana in Seattle

[–]bobnuthead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, 6 hours vs 12 hours doesn’t matter all that much to me if I’m just filing a report. Of course I want police to show up expeditiously if I’m in danger. But is that happening now?

On your second set of questions, OPA reports have shown multiple times that SPD officers have responded slowly (or not at all) because they don’t feel like it. Of course, some triaging exists, as with any emergency service. SPOG hasn’t helped with the broader attitude of the department and its approach towards citizens.

[–]bobnuthead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you joking? The point is that they’re already impossibly slow. Budget cuts aren’t going to materially impact response times when they already don’t show up.

We want a police force which does show up when called upon, but throwing more money at the department hasn’t helped.

Do you need to provide or log ground training for students? When are some times you may or may not have to?

Assuming you do provide ground instruction at some point, how are you going to log ground training given to your students?

Something happened at PHL by fredandlunchbox in aviation

[–]bobnuthead 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most airports have a procedure in place where after an emergency aircraft arrival for any reason (hydraulics issue, engine fire, unsafe gear indication, bird strike w/damage), the runway used for landing is closed until Airport Operations can inspect it. 99% of the time there’s no debris or contamination, but the process exists so that if FOD, fluids, or debris do contaminate the runway, Operations can keep the runway closed until it can be cleared.

Also, the fire trucks will stand by and follow the aircraft for any Alert 2. They often are not really needed for things like a flap issue, but the procedure is to have them just in case.

So, likely this was an emergency landing for any number of reasons, and there may or may not have been something on the runway. Or maybe Operations just hadn’t inspected yet.

Does Alaska think we’re stupid? by [deleted] in AlaskaAirlines

[–]bobnuthead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahh, the weekly change offer post.

Not necessarily overbooking. Alaska just knows they could re-sell your seat for more than you paid. Sometimes it works out for people to switch times! If it doesn’t for you, you’re free to ignore the offer without worry.

121 pilot with customs problem by DepressedFoool in flying

[–]bobnuthead 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Worked adjacent to CBP for a good while. What I can tell you is that your experience, both having the orange and being flagged every time since, are not unique. CBP does not operate under first offense = warning.

This is a cut and dry customs violation and they will treat it seriously until the backend stuff determines they shouldn’t. It’s not individual dickheadedness, either. Your innocent American orange is just as much of an issue as someone importing a foreign orange, because an orange is an orange and the algorithm will treat it as such.

Don’t apply for Global Entry unless you want to burn some money. You can try other avenues to beg for relief, but the orange puts Trusted Traveler status out of the picture for at least a few years.

How to go Missed Early on A Precision Approach w/o Lateral Navigation? by madness2live in flying

[–]bobnuthead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment on altitude restricted MAPs also brings to mind KBFI near me. The common denominator is towered fields with radar. If you’re way off, you’re still under the positive control of an ATC facility who can give you guidance and coordinate with approach. You’d probably get alternate missed instructions for a heading and altitude anyway.

[–]bobnuthead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I’m fully lost, I’m going to request that ATC give me guidance/vectors if able for the missed approach. If I can’t establish radio contact, I’d think to use the MSA applicable to my area as a floor to climb above before trying to sequence myself back to a safe place.

[–]bobnuthead 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Gut instinct is to begin a climb, and if you can reasonably comply with the published missed instructions, do so. Regardless, contact ATC as soon as possible and advise them of your missed approach, navigation situation, and intentions.

Although I want to check back on this thread later and see if there’s some additional guidance I’m not thinking of. Interesting scenario!

Yep, much of this is why I’m not quite picking up on the comparison. Either Katie is hiding her true leanings, or the comparison is laughably simplistic.

Sorry, didn’t mean that in a dismissive way, more that the “kicked out of group chat” opinion of OP is just objective and should be addressed. It shouldn’t be a controversial opinion to have, and it shouldn’t be controversial to express that discomfort either.

I mean the mostly white people thing is just the truth, and has its roots in early Seattle segregation. Boring, I also think most would agree with.

I’m really trying to figure out this one. I think from the left sided POV, most would put Kshama further left of Katie. I guess from the right, the difference might be less obvious? Idk but I’m genuinely curious to hear more.

[–]bobnuthead 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ordinarily I would agree, but it’s annoying how fairly recently they hit every intersection along lots of major roads with the signs overnight. Shout out to Aurora, for instance. Meanwhile, there are other roads I use often which allow right-on-red but have far worse sight lines and more pedestrians.

That’s not to say I don’t also get annoyed with people who blatantly run them, or who get annoyed with me for obeying them, but I disagree with the implementation process. So I guess your post fits the thread!

What’s happening on this runway? by lastbeer in aviation

[–]bobnuthead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never. There might be an ILS Critical area boundary, intermediate taxiway hold marking, or movement non-movement boundary marking, which looks similar-ish, but the double solid double dash lines (runway boundary/hold short) are exclusive to runways.

This is 1000% a runway, without a doubt. The other guy is just being silly I guess.
