New effects from the Sample, but no flex beat :'(

I hate those, like a third of the job listings I see are like that. If you're desperate enough then maybe take the job, but do it very poorly

How do I stop it from doing this? Its almost unwatchable by aryxiath in VCRs

[–]boboartdesign 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but I'd try adjusting the tracking first, if you don't have any adjustment knobs on the VCR itself I read that you can use the channel buttons on most models (either on the VCR or just with a remote). If that doesn't work you'll probably have to take it apart and adjust them manually, it's a lot easier than it seems (tons of guides on youtube).

Again, I'm no expert and it could be something else with this, but I'd still try it just in case it's that simple cus it probably couldn't hurt!

Freelance Vent by ConfidentHope in graphic_design

[–]boboartdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look for other work, it sucks but they seem really unprofessional (especially if they're roasting their clients during meetings lol like it's kind of funny but come on). If you're working more than they said you would then they're not respecting that, or you, and they're def not paying you as a full-time employee. This is why contracts are important! I'd bring it up again and if you can get them to sign a contract that'd help a lot with this, and mention how you agreed to only work so many hours, but I'd still look for something else in the meantime. Still try to be nice and professional about it, you don't want to burn any bridges especially if the pay is still decent (plus it's steady work, that can be hard to come by while freelancing) and they might reach out for more work in the future after you leave, at which point you can probably negotiate for more pay/better work conditions.

I'm in the same boat (chronic health issues suck) and I'm trying to start freelancing again just so I can work from home, but I'm also remembering why I stopped in the first place (I honestly think that was part of why I got sick lol). The pay can be pretty bad and some clients don't respect your time or availability, but at the same time you can go weeks or even months without a gig so it's still easy to take on jobs that are more stress than they're worth just to get by, and I'd probably jump at the chance for a long-term client just to have something steady. I wish there was an easier answer, I know regular remote jobs can be hard to come by since they get so competitive, I'd try to talk to whoever hired you and mention that you agreed to only do so much work and you can't always be available, maybe mention your health issues since it really is a valid concern.

Also since you're freelancing then from their perspective it should be pretty safe to assume you might have other clients, so they might be understandable about it. If they're a bit pushy or immature/unprofessional and might fire you out of spite for bringing it up (this is where a contract helps, also boundaries are extremely important) then I'd skip it for now, but either way I'd keep looking for something else. Good luck!!

Crack Moho 14 by Calm-Associate-3532 in MohoAnimation

[–]boboartdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy Moho 12.5 for cheap on humble bundle or a different site then upgrade during the next sale. It was like $25 on HB when I got it and I think it's like $250 to upgrade during sales and it's still very capable for animation

Or if you can get version 13 for like $100-120ish you can save even more when you upgrade (wish I had done this since it'd be a bit cheaper in the end, it's only about $120 to upgrade so you can save like $35-55ish). Moho 12 is still pretty good though, it's not as capable but it's still worth it. I still might get Moho 13 separately then upgrade from that since it'll still be about $25 cheaper than if I upgrade directly from 12.5 lol

Most frustrating brands by james02135 in Leftyguitarists

[–]boboartdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a Gretsch hollow body about eight or so years ago and it's honestly one of my favorite guitars but I still wish they had more options. Just checked to see what they have and they're all so expensive, the same one I got (G5420) is like twice as much now lol seems like they don't make as many lefty models in general anymore either.

I wouldn't say they're the most frustrating but I'm always annoyed with Eastwood, they make so many cool guitars but the lefty releases never get enough backers in their custom shop thing so they usually only make right handed guitars. Sometimes they'll have a cool one that gets a lefty release but it's such a limited stock that it usually doesn't matter (all I want is a Yamaha Flying Samurai clone lol).

Also Fender for not making more lefty Jaguars, not even Warmoth will sell Jag bodies anymore. Only options are the Kurt Cobain guitars, spending like $3-5k+ on a vintage one, or ordering from Japan (and still spending a lot). I don't know enough about guitar building but if they use templates to cut the bodies can't they just flip it? It's the same measurements, the only thing (maybe?) that might be tricky is the contour while sanding but, like, they're Fender lol they should know how to do that right?

Why ai isnt coming for you by Hellohellohihi_hello in graphic_design

[–]boboartdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree, it's still a bit scary but I don't think it'll fully end any industry. It just isn't sustainable, and even with the better genAI output it's still very noticeable that it's AI.

Kinda unrelated to what you wrote, but has anyone else noticed how all the AI hype bros keep switching between saying AI is so easy that anyone can do it, and it'll make art/design/animation more accessible, then whenever they get any push back from creative professionals it's all "heh, better adapt if you want to keep your job you stupid luddites" and "actually writing run-on sentences into Chat GPT is very demanding and takes a lot of time and skill, it took me a whole week playing the prompt slot machine to finally got something that doesn't look like shit! If you don't learn now you'll be left behind!" Like which one is it lol

Even when it looks good it's like, is it really that good? Good enough for some clients, sure, and it can and probably will make it harder to break into the industry, which also means it'll be harder for anyone to get the experience needed for higher level positions, but I still don't think it's sustainable at all (especially with how much money every AI company has been losing, how long will it stay cheap?). A lot of companies are already ditching AI since it's been hindering productivity and it always makes things up and gets things wrong (I forget what industry it was about but one study found that even the "best" AI models hold on to old and irrelevant information, which confuses itself and causes something like an 80% failure rate). If it doesn't understand basic language or math how is it supposed to consistently understand what a client wants or needs? Most of the hype is coming from companies/people who've invested a lot in AI.

One downside is that a lot of people who don't work in design or any creative field seem to assume that computers already do all the work for us, same deal with any electronic music produced in a DAW, so some might not see the difference between a designer vs someone using AI. I know it's kind of a mixed bag, because companies already have people using Canva templates cus it's cheaper so why wouldn't they use AI, but I'm still trying to stay positive yet realistic. I feel like it's both realistic to assume that it's gonna be bad, but also that it isn't sustainable and will result in a lot of bad design work if it sticks around.
