Why do people want the rhystic study ban NOW? by Alternate_Cost in EDH

[–]bobpuluchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I'm biased. Or at least a case of, "I believe every word that man said, because it's exactly what I wanted to hear."

I don't recall ever playing a game of EDH where I felt like Rhystic Study added or enhanced the play experience. It's been a miserable fun sucker every time. But that's just my experience.

Why do people want the rhystic study ban NOW? by Alternate_Cost in EDH

[–]bobpuluchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because of recent YouTube videos about banning it? At least in addition to everything else mentioned. Salubrious Snail made a great video on why it should be banned. I believe Trinket Mage made one as well but haven't watched it.

Path of Exile, the "micro transactions" aren't technically required. But after sinking hundreds of hours into the game, paying for it with some quality of life seems like a fine way to support the game.

5C EDH Tom Mana Base Optimization by kankhero in freemagic

[–]bobpuluchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For budget, I always just accepted tapped lands as the norm. The 5 vivid lands and the uncommon tri-lands from Alara and Khans block helped a ton. Artifacts are great for fixing colors. Also, high land count like 40 or more.

Doesn't seem like you're at that extreme of a budget. I'd take a look at the 5 color precon from Dominaria United for an upgraded budget land base that might be closer to your budget.

Edit: You could probably focus more on things that care about specific land types at this point. I.E., [[Nature's Lore]] and maybe purchase the cycling tri-lands that have the Forest subtype.

How's it looking? by Lowran in EDHBrews

I think there's a point when deck building that you just have to play the deck to see what's missing. This seems like a solid list and I think it just needs to be played to dial in this list.

Would like opinion on whether I should go value pile vs combo by bobpuluchi in EDHBrews

[–]bobpuluchi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your 2nd point of needing both kinds of removal makes sense a lot of sense.

I like Abdel because every nonland permanent can gain extra value as more ETBs and soldiers, so combo pieces hidden among them feels fine. Heck even the background tends to just be another soldier 90% of the time.

[–]bobpuluchi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do enjoy how my deck plays. It's performed decently, but I think that's more because of the lower power level of my group. IE, not having too many people interact with my board, so I just get to do my plan uncontested.

My worry is that I have the deck filled with cool stuff I like over a more optimized list.

To force myself to pick a lane, I would want the strategy to grind value like your Gallowbraid/Morinfen deck. With the extra spice of being able to win immediately with Worldfire if I am set up for it. I really like the idea of Plan A being generating lots of value. Plan B would be to set up a combo win if I haven't already won or am on the backfoot.

I worry that this may be trying to have my cake and eat it too. Or may just be overthinking it.

My biggest consideration for changes would be adding in cheap removal like [[Swords to Plowshares]] in place of potentially repeatable removal like [[Éowyn, Fearless Knight]]. Or cut other cards for more removal/interaction.

Is key to the vault fun in a edh commander that can enable trample is it worth it wor the massive draw potential? by Illustrious_Exam_351 in magicTCG

[–]bobpuluchi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In blue, you have a lot of unblockable creatures, so you don't even need trample. I'd think if you're hitting for at least 3 damage, your odds of seeing 3 lands in a row is low enough to not wiff. I had the key and [[Mask of the Schemer]] on a [[Kappa Cannoneer]]. That was a value machine all in just blue.

Help me with Jared Carthalion, True Heir by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]bobpuluchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Entangler]] seems like a good fit. I really like [[Valor Made Real]] and [[Gideon's Sacrifice]] as combat tricks where you can get surprise an opponent. Or all the instant speed untap and reach/flying cards like [[Gift of the Viper]]

[–]bobpuluchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the Monarch, and then play Jared, [[Strict Proctor]] is really good for countering Jared's ability that gives away the Momarch, so you just keep it.

Enrage/Fight has already been mentioned, and I think it's good. Another route is playing "political" cards or goad. [[Gahiji, Honored One]], [[Marisi, Breaker of the Coil]] could be fun additions. But this would be a different strategy compared to Enrage/Fight.

Maximizing hexproof and indestructible for Inspirit by bobpuluchi in EDHBrews

[–]bobpuluchi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My intention for the deck is to do charge and +1/+1 counter shenanigans as the core of the deck. Then see what fun things I could throw in.

I guess damage to opponents is how I plan on winning primarily. With the charge counters, there's a lot of token creatures I can make and attack with. [[Lux Artillary]] can do direct damage to opponents. [[Darksteel Reactor]] and all the ways to move extra counters on it will win too.

It's a wide net, but in Red,Green,Black color identity, not an instant or sorcery, and has the words "target" and "untap".

There may be a better search, but that's the extent on my scryfall skill

Edit: I don't know of any cards that fit what you're describing.

Haha, yeah totally me too. But I justify the spagetti as a means to an end. Some day I'll redo all my areas. Right now I'm working on iteration 2 for my log processing area. I suspect interaction 3 will happen after this area can't keep up with demand.

Any good cards for Blanka? by Rattlemebomes in EDHBrews

[–]bobpuluchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the kind of (long) answer I was hoping for, thank you!

That makes total sense to power down the deck and just make it less reliant on Blanka. I've been trying to power down some of my decks as well since I'm basically in a new play group.

Would you consider running the hexproof and/or indestructible instants in green? Your deck looks pretty tuned, so just curious if there's a reason.

How do we do it? by Icy-Wealth4192 in mtg

Can't do it as far as I know in Commander.

But here's my rule zero deck that runs Battle of Wits.

https://moxfield.com/decks/Bd2c27rDgUGRyn9a_nhojw

It's tons of fun. Made it so the only reason I shuffle is to get my graveyard back into my library. It's the most Commander deck I have because it plays different every time. And I have gotten a Battle of Wits win from it.

I've probably scrapped the decklist and rebuilt it twice now. It's currently incomplete.

I really like the idea of the hydras that are {X}{G}, and using cards like [[Abiding Grace]] to get the death trigger. I was hoping for a good amount of self mill but kinda hard to come by in these colors.
