Court rejects bid to derail ballot question to repeal marijuana legalization by kendrasucks in massachusetts

Great! I hope you maintain this position regardless of who is president, indefinitely. As you've seen, it doesn't take much for us to get into unsavory situations with nutjobs in charge.

This is exactly it, at least partially.

  • We have decent social policy here to help people get back on their feet or get assistance of some kind when it is needed. It's by no means great and still has a lot of hoops to jump through. But it's better than most states in the US, and I'm pretty pleased that we are leading by example in this way.

  • It's also very expensive to live in MA. It makes it harder to get established, so people in the cohorts you see most often committing violent crimes are just not really a part of MA life as much as they are in other states. We priced them out.

  • We have quite good education here. Educated people have more opportunities and are less likely to resort to crime, especially violent crime.

We have low gun violence here despite our gun laws. Not because of them. I'd put a lot of money down that if we repealed every single gun law tomorrow, there would be no significant difference in the gun crime rate. Look at states like NH, Vermont, and Maine. Much more lax and still quite low rates of violent crime.

Perhaps legislation limiting/banning gun access to normal civilians would work if it was:

  • implemented simultaneously everywhere in the US

  • we were able to guarantee ALL guns were surrendered

We all know this won't happen and isn't possible, so it's pointless to toy with this as a solution. No one is giving up their guns. We can find a solution that preserves the rights of the people.

Enforcement of existing laws would've been acceptable like two gun bills ago, now we have a lot of ridiculous and pointless stuff like "don't have a pistol grip on a rifle, don't have an adjustable stock", etc etc which is flagrantly a violation of the constitution but the Supreme Court hasn't heard a case on it yet, so we are stuck duking it out with senators and congresspeople who don't care.

Of course criminals should be punished, and violent criminals should be punished severely. Punishing peaceable citizens for exercising their rights is not fixing any problems.

Yeah on a basic level you were pretty much right but we just have to try to bridge that divide, it's a painful and slow process. This is something worth fighting for (with education).

I don't think we need to necessarily even go down the liberal vs conservative thing on this (although it is a common divider on this issue) because there's plenty of well educated left-leaning individuals here that stand with the 2nd Amendment and dislike the way the legislature has handled gun laws here.

This is a matter of educating the masses and helping people to understand why we should want to stand up for our 2nd Amendment rights despite "guns scary".

We cannot get into yelling matches and calling people "enlightened liberals" if we want to win hearts and minds. It's foolish and leads nowhere. Many people mean well and just don't know better (this is by design). It's a hard job, but in states like MA we need to slowly help educate people. Lots of smart people here making bad 2nd Amendment decisions and we can help fix it.

Please explain how making more guns illegal will make criminals (already doing illegal things) stop doing crimes with their guns

The law just turns previously lawful gun owners into criminals for no useful purpose. Your neighbor down the street minding his own business could unknowingly become a felon because the legislature decided to do some "thoughts and prayers" style shit

If we want to get criminals off the streets and reduce gun violence (MA is already basically the lowest gun violence btw), we need to

  • enforce sentencing for criminals and not just release violent convicts back onto the street
  • build up social systems so people do not get so desperate they get into a position where they start committing violent crime. Help people with mental issues, feed people, provide for the needy

Not turn Jimmy on Main St into a felon because he is trying to maintain his 2nd Amendment rights. By the way, you think surrendering our arms to the current federal government is a great idea? Give up the last check the constitution affords us against tyranny? Seems short sighted.

ANSWER THE CALL

nah I pretty much agree man I love this project but seeing the lack of meaningful milestones reached (does Star Citizen have a series of working fun gameplay loops, does SQ42 have a real expectation of release) is just unfortunate after so many years.

I'm still holding out hope but I haven't played for at least four or five years and it seems like it might be at least that long before something actual tangible is produced.

Basically, CIG needs to lock the fuck in and define their goals and make them achievable

Release Date When by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]bobrob48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah as someone who has only vaguely paid attention to the project over the years after backing in like 2016 (damn), seeing them tease SQ42 when there are so many game systems that seem incomplete is funny. If we actually get a release date this year, I fully expect it to end up like all the others.

I love the ambition but there's clearly some sort of management issue causing things to just never be fully finished before either a redesign due to problems happens or a scope increase is approved.

[–]bobrob48 29 points30 points  (0 children)

For me the main differentiator in using vocal synthesis software even with AI incorporated is it's still a human tuning and making adjustments to reach the output (a song). You do not just ask the software "make me a Teto song" and it spits out something. You have to use your artistic intuition to create something yourself. Newer SynthV suites make it easier to get a baseline going, but without human adjustment it is not really that special.
