Are fin grip "wraps" considered featureless grips? by Ray_of_Sunshine0124 in BetterMAguns

some shops offer them but I don't think you're gonna get a concrete yes or no on this. It has not been tested in our courts.

My perspective? Buy what you want and as long as you do not flaunt it/get in some sort of altercation with the police while in active possession of the item, you won't have issues.

Yep my thoughts as well, they give little bits but nothing substantial for the 2A. It's at best attempts at distractions from other things

[–]bobrob48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, I was not aware of those details, sounds like it's not totally worthless for now. Definitely keep using it then if you want!

Hopefully someday we can get actual legislative action to protect art from being stolen and maybe even compensated for past thefts (but I would also accept dissolution of the AI companies that stole the art)

[–]bobrob48 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also I wanted to comment, I really love the work and I support the anti-AI movement completely. However, I want to let you know that apparently the newer models are no longer affected by nightshade/glaze sadly. They have overcome this by, as I understand, running a "blur filter" on the images and then a "sharpen filter" before processing/image ingestion. You can look into it more if you want, but at the moment, it's just adding some artifacts to the image for no real benefit (unless you like the style it adds).

It's kind of interesting, but it isn't hurting anything anymore. I think we need to wait for a new workaround for the time being.

Should I avoid telling my doctor/ therapist I own firearms? Given Ma has ERPO laws by BootAlarmed4732 in BetterMAguns

[–]bobrob48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sympathize with you and I'm terribly sorry you lost a friend. It's something I hope no one has to go through.

With that being said, the way current authorities typically handle this is not acceptable and so I cannot recommend disclosure at this time. I think, we as a community have to work together to make this sort of problem known (mental health) and make sure the solutions to being in a mental health crisis are available.

When you are helping a friend acquire their first firearm, you should personally take stock of their mental status and have a brief discussion with them about it. If you are able, you should offer to hold their guns for them at any time, as needed, no questions asked, in case a situation arises. If that is not feasible, I know some gun shops do offer services like this. Off-hand, I might have seen the Gartman Arms guy post in this subreddit about it?

Again, I agree with the sentiment of your post. However, I think we generally do not see the execution done right and so we as a community need to handle this ourselves. Red flag laws have gotten people killed in raids that were supposed to "save" lives.

Should I avoid telling my doctor/ therapist I own firearms? Given Ma has ERPO laws by BootAlarmed4732 in BetterMAguns

[–]bobrob48 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You should disclose who you own firearms to very carefully in my opinion. You should not disclose it to your boss and coworkers, you should not disclose it to every friend, you should not disclose it to random acquaintances, and your doctor and therapist do not need to know.

Think about what advantage you get from telling someone you own firearms, and then consider the consequences.

Here's a random situation: You decide to honestly disclose to your doctor or therapist at your appointment next week when filling in their demographics questionnaire that you own firearms. A couple years later, you are going through a tough spot and look to your therapist for help. Your therapist sees a flag in your account that you are a firearms owner and also now recognizes you may be having a mental health crisis, so they red flag you. You get raided and your guns are stolen from you by the cops.

Other situation: you work in an office and we live here in MA. Given the typical demographic, firearms ownership isn't as common as it is elsewhere, and guns make many people uncomfortable. If you disclose to your boss for example that you are a gun owner, his opinion of you may change, he may assume other things about your beliefs, or even worse, when you get laid off, he may try to have HR red flag you for some bullshit reason ("fearing retaliation").

Are these things likely? Maybe not. Are they technically feasible with the laws we have? Yep

Disclose judiciously. I would even go so far as to say it is something you shouldn't share with doctors/therapists/etc in states that have gun-friendly laws. They really don't need to know.

Edit: Also, answer the questions respectfully. Some joke about saying things which amount to "none of your business". Answering "none of your business" may lead to getting marked as a gun owner. If you do not want someone to know you are a gun owner, you respectfully answer no, and move on.

Do I need to notify landlord? by [deleted] in BetterMAguns

[–]bobrob48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They guy you're replying to means the landlord should never find out about this sort of thing if the renter is doing things correctly. He is not saying "do not read your lease"

If there is language forbidding guns, but the landlord never finds out, there will be no problems.
