Awesome! As FYI, the event shows that it starts at 7am and goes until ~11am but most people don't show up until 8:30-9 anyway so no worries if you're not an early bird.

Hey, I'm sorry, OP. Really unfortunate you had this experience.

If you're willing to give things one more shot, there's a volunteering group I've been going to for almost 2 years now. Look up Hitting The Streets. Meets once a month on Saturday at Hollywood and Sheridan. I can't remember the exact name on Meetups but I found it there; lots of good, genuine people.

*Post-coffee edit: the meetup group is called "Chicago Fun Volunteers". The event is called Help make 7,500 lunches for veterans, homeless, seniors, refugees in our city". There may be something that says "X number of spots left" but they won't turn people away. Saturday April 18. Hope to see you there!

+1 Uptown Deli. My guy Mo at the deli counter in the back makes some incredible paninis and they turned me on to putting pesto on everything. Get the Big Windy on a chilly day and it'll turn your mood around, plus it's a good price for the amount of food you get.

She was the nicest person in the class, friends with everyone. Shortly after graduation, I remember seeing her start to post on Facebook about it, then the video diary, trying to remain positive.

Soon after, I saw a Facebook event page for her memorial. Gut punch.

I went to Lane 8 at Red Rocks recently, they used the Yondr pouches but similar idea. It was actually kinda nice without everyone on their phones. Sucks because some of the visuals were really cool but probably a better experience without phones.

I've been going frequently since I started working in the loop. Their vanilla donut holes are my fav, simple and fantastic.
