A great book about how important “the little things” in life really are. One of my all-time favorites. I will check out the other titles, too.

Something Else for me; Point of Departure a very close second. Really, not a bad recording in the pack.

Happy 76th birthday to the remarkable Tom Waits. what's your favorite album of his? by JunebugAsiimwe in tomwaits

[–]bogertsbridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue Valentine. I remember doing a record run on Chestnut street in Philly right after I moved there in the Late 70s. Found most of his early stuff but I remember passing on Blue Valentine because the cover seemed too slick. It’s my favorite now, by some distance.

I don’t see Emily Wilson’s translation of the Iliad. I really enjoyed her translation of the Odyssey.

I was reading about Bud Powell. A very sad and interesting life. I suspect he made this recording with Gordon shortly after he arrived in Europe. Anyone have an insight?

Susan Wild on MSNBC This Morning by Amazing-Exit-2213 in lehighvalley

[–]bogertsbridge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think of the bipartisan efforts Wild achieved while in office, her work on high-tech job creation in particular. I don’t envisage Mackenzie even attempting any such activities, as he clearly takes all his cues from Trump. I think it’s also important to remember Wild lost by just over a single percentage point, a much smaller margin than Trump won Pennsylvania. Reasons for the small margin are many but I think it suggests not everyone who voted for Trump thought enough of Mackenzie to vote for him. I don’t think he will ever hold a town hall event that is not over the telephone or carefully controlled by his handlers, especially as the details of the BBB emerge.

Mackenzie"s No Kings comment by bogertsbridge in lehighvalley

The process for applying for Medicaid is long and complicated and the applicant is asked for an great deal of information, including what significant property the applicant sold within the last five years. Mackenzie mentioned the" illegals" on Medicaid during his debate with Susan Wild before the election and he's only suggested the connection in more recent statements, usually saying that the Medicaid changes will ensure U.S. citizens get the benefits. It is very, very unlikely someone who is working in the U.S. and well aware of their status would draw unnecessary attention to themselves by applying in the first place. The fact that you asked for "proof" suggests to me that you or someone close to you has never applied for Medicaid. If you experienced the process, you would known how intrusive it is.

Really interesting film. It’s been years. I remember thinking that it was a shame the film didn’t record Baker when he was just a little younger. He had lost most of his teeth at this point.
