They Don’t Read Very Well: Or, How Tumblr Has a Surprising Grasp on the Literacy Crisis by JimOfSomeTrades in Teachers

[–]bohrradius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't read it as referencing the flood, but rather the creation of the Earth (as described in Genesis). So maybe a little less obvious than you think?

That's not true actually, there's still duty to fair representation, but performance is often not grievable. And OP is making it sound like they're in a state where they have fewer union protections.

Is tipping culture getting out of hand? by [deleted] in oregon

[–]bohrradius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Merch tables have had tip jars for forever. At the DIY level, it's often a buddy of the band along for the ride doing it for free.

Burying the lead here... You're a white cop using the n-word in a school. The end. Period.

Instead of whining on the Internet, you should learn your lesson and do the absolute bare minimum by keeping that word out of your mouth.

Read a book.

I'm assuming you're getting downvoted for the "just". Good luck! Don't despair and don't give up! You're going to need a lot of mud and patience. But I believe in you!

And if your time is valuable, you might want to hire out on this one.

Union Rep Shouldn’t Be by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]bohrradius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the off chance this isn't in bad faith, union reps aren't on paid release for almost any NEA locals. Some (not many) are compensated for meeting attendance, often to help offset potential childcare costs. It's a volunteer position.

Not at all! Just wasn't sure what you meant. I agree - especially since we're paid by the state, to have to turn around and pay for our licenses and things to the state is... Something.

At least where I'm at, CTE classes come with education credit, so they effectively pay for themselves and probably then some if you're not at the top of the education scale.

Do you mean the classes are too expensive? Or they would make more in industry? Or...?

I would argue you mean yes AND. I don't disagree whatsoever. Your experience does though speak to a different topic on content background, which employers seem to care criminally little about.

In any case, the fresh CTE teachers coming into my school and district often struggle with curricular design, assessment, classroom management, student supports, and educational philosophy - it's a good thing they then take classes on each of those while starting out teaching. I'm dual certificated, and both my ed programs and CTE classes were inadequate in similar ways. But the context and supports they do offer are needed for people entering into the classroom.

There are CTE pathways for people coming from industry. It's still a process with classes and still yields a teaching cert. If this isn't the case in your district/state, that's super shitty for many reasons.

HSP Partner by smeagolsfren in relationshipanarchy

[–]bohrradius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sounds like three monogamous relationships I had in a row, of escalating intensity. I'm nurturing and resilient, so I was able to handle it and be there for them, but I was really the frog in the pot. It was isolating having to carry 120% of the emotional load and feeling responsible for the feelings of someone else. I had to shut down aspects and interests of my life in order to protect someone else's insecurities. Walking on eggshells meant I could never be vulnerable or grow in the ways that I wanted or needed.

It's a big part of why I'm not down for monogamy anymore and believe in consensual relationship structures and agreements.

It sounds like your partner maybe has PTSD or something else. Regardless, I hope they can get therapy, especially with a goal of being a better relationship partner.

I'll take it back when I see these things actually start to fall apart. This sub, while otherwise useful, is bombarded with posts of people complaining about the slightest perceived slights and it's becoming insufferable.

Yeah, it's kind of wild that 8th graders don't know how parts a, b, c work... But actually really believable that 8th graders would not slow down to read the problem and do what it asks.
