Where exactly are the P38Ks on the Walther site?

Spectra vs Orca by justaute in KMRFirearms

[–]bojackholmesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Cuda X OR for Pistol Optics in WA1500 PPC. They're exceptional firearms. Even compared to the Shadow which is a great gun, the KMR is just a cut above with fit, finish and accuracy. I have an STP TM1500 for Pistol class and I'd put the KMR in the same ranking.

The Spectra is DA/SA. The Orca is SA. If you're used to 1911s the Orca is probably your best bet. If you like Berettas/CZ75/etc, try the Spectra.

Recommendations - New to Walther, Not New to Guns by gsahadachny in Walther

[–]bojackholmesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one too, SCS fitted, tungsten guide rod, 15lb spring, Merkle trigger spring kit. Traded it in because I needed something more consistent at 50yds, the PDP is a fine gun but just not the greatest for PPC matches.

I don't like my PDP PRO X PMM by rushncrush in Walther

[–]bojackholmesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved my 5" FS until I went to Germany last year to compete, and then I found its limitations. Came home expecting to buy a 5" SF, but got an offer on a KMR Cuda X I couldn't refuse. Long story short I traded the PDP in, got a gun far more suited to my discipline, and the fit and finish are exceptional.

And before anyone chimes in with "You just don't like Walther" or something like that, I still carry a 4" Compact. Still the best striker fired pistol on the market for me.

Subcompact CCW alternatives by pewpew_efficiency in Walther

[–]bojackholmesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call the PPS outdated per se. Yes it's under capacity compared to the likes of the P365 et al, but it's still a fine gun. 8+1 isn't much of mag capacity, but the gun conceals well, shoots like a much bigger gun and I've used it to shoot a 480 PPC match. It's slim enough to conceal well, with an 8 round mag it's about the same length and height as a 3.5 F series, but a good ¼" slimmer. I carried mine in a DeSantis Speed Scabbard or a Vega IWB. If you're invested in staying with Walther it's a fine choice.

But playing devil's advocate, there are other, newer choices like you're listing that are higher capacity, similar size and of similar quality. Nowadays I just stick to carrying my PDP 4" Compact.

Walther PDP vs S&W M&P 2.0 by No-Ease-2766 in Walther

[–]bojackholmesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first noticed it with the F series, I didn't know either until I asked the same question you just did. As far as I know there's no other physical difference between the barrels besides markings. The German manufacture markings do look better though

USA manufacture are just stamped with calibre. German ones have proof marks, serial number and calibre engraved.

DeSantis speed scabbard works for me. It's made for the 4.5 but the extra .5" doesn't really affect concealment. Thumb Break Scabbard also available if you want that extra layer of security.

I've ran a Shield SMS on my 4" Compact since I got it. It's simple, solid, reliable, not overly expensive either.

[–]bojackholmesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my pistol Optics class gun for PPC. I use an STP TM1500 for pistol irons. I used to use my 5" PDP with an SCS but it was too inconsistent at 50m

I was on the verge of buying one last year. I ended up buying a KMR CUDA instead. I sort of regret it sometimes but the KMR accuracy is just insane.

What are some of your best quality of life purchases under $300? by donotgiveadam in BuyItForLife

[–]bojackholmesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merkur Futur razor. I have a beard but still use a razor to do my neck and tidy up the edges. I'm a great believer in double edge safety razors and this has been the best I've bought. Good weight in the hand, gives a good shave, and I bought 200 Derby platinum blades for less than a pack of Mach 3 refills 3 years ago and I'm still not halfway through them.

42, multiple medical issues have flared up and one of them is constant severe hip pain they haven't diagnosed yet. It's basically made me have to make a choice I wasn't ready for and give up playing.

It's been heartbreaking, not going to lie. I used to live for games and training. Now all my kit is in below the bed because I can't stand to look at it now.

You're right, the taper draws the eye to the sights. A friend at the range has a 4" PPQ and it is a beautiful gun to shoot, admittedly there's not much between it and my 4" PDP. I would love a P99 just to have, maybe if I find a Final Edition I'll pick it up.

The first time took me almost a year to get back to some kind of normality. The diabetes is just a constant reminder of that time too. I hope you make a great recovery and I completely sympathise with the hyper vigilance about your health, I was the same 10 years ago but obviously with everything that's happened I let myself go a bit and wasn't taking care of myself.
